I’ve circled this week in my head months ago. This is the final simulation week for the Disney Dopey Challenge (5k, 10k, 13.1, 26.2 in 4 days). I’m following the plan Hal Higdon created for this event.
Here’s what this week looks like:
Mon: rest
Tue: 5 miles (+ weights)
Wed: rest
Thu: 2.5 miles (I’ll do 3 + weights)
Fri: 5 miles
Sat: 10 miles
Sun: 20 miles
I feel pretty good going into it. My knee feels the best it’s felt in weeks, I didn’t even tape it before my 5 miler today. We’ve also had a warm front come through, so it’s patio weather right now, but they say the weekend will get cold again.
Either way, I’m ready to knock it out! I’m already trying to figure out which taco joint I’m going to hit up after the 20 miler. That is good motivation right? Tacos?
After that it will be all taper time until the main event! We’re getting close! When I was putting in the miles for this back in July and August, it felt like we’d never get here, but now we are! Let’s do this!
I know most of my friends are in the off season right now, but is anyone training for anything? How difficult is it to train this time of year…what with all the darkness, coldness, & rich foodness going on?
Ahhhh you’ve got this!! So exciting.
As you know, I’m not training for anything, but LOVING being able to run whenever and however long I want. There will be a time for training again in 2014 🙂
Word up! Enjoy the freedom!!! I’m looking forward to a small break after this is over myself!
I must be getting used to training because your week sounds mostly doable to me. Although I’ve never done a run longer than 15 miles and done one back to back 10 & 12 miler.
Tacos sound like motivation. We had chicken, poblano, apple & goat cheese tacos today. I could’ve eaten 10.
I know, right?!? I’ve actually asked people if I should run further than the plan says, and they all told me no, trust in higdon.
Do u get medals for all races?
You do. Plus one for doing the dopey and one for doing the goofy. 6 total! Plus six shirts (1 tee, 5 long sleeve tech)
Oh wow! I would love to do a Disney race but they don’t fall on my vacay times. Jan/feb is so soon after Christmas break….school wise.
Ah, well check out the official Run Disney website. Between disney world and Disney land they have races almost all year round.
I will. I figured they did a lot of jan fab races for the non peak seasons.
I’m not training either-this stage of your training is where I always get the most nervous. There’s so much pressure that the long runs have to get done, I psych myself out right before the race. Good luck Sunday, I expect some wicked taco photos!
I’m actually looking forward to it. I know I’ve trained as well as I’ve been able to and I’m curious to see how I hold up during this final “dry run”.
I’ll bring the taco photos hard!!!
Woooooooo! This is so exciting!!! You got this Scotty the Pirate!
Ha! Thanks Frosty the Amy!
The thought of food or wine can get me through virtually anything! Enjoy this biggie week! 🙂
Yes! Tacos and beer shall lead the way!
Beer and TexMex are my motivators for long runs!
I have the New Years’ Double coming up on NYE. Should be interesting since my longest run this month was 8 miles….
I’ll send you an invite to join me this weekend. Come on out and get your long run in!
So many miles per week! I love reading your blog and have nominated you for a blogger award on mine.
Thank you so much! You are the bomb! I enjoy reading yours too!!!
Good luck with this weekend’s training! That Friday, SAturday, Sunday looks tough! But, if you nail it, you’ll be golden come race day! Take care of that knee.
Tacos would definitely be awesome motivation!
Thank you so much! I’m actually kind of looking forward to it. Once it’s done though, all that’s left is to taper and race!
I’ll probably tape my knee this weekend, but it’s feeling 99% better!
Whenever you come to Texas I’ll point out some good taco joints!
