New Year, New Race – Key West Half Marathon!

I’m pretty excited for this race!!! On Jan. 18 I’ll be running the Key West Half Marathon! It’s going to be a blast! You should join me if you can!

That's my sis and her friend in the tutus!!!

That’s my sis and her friend in the tutus!!!

Here’s why I’m excited (in no particular order)…

1. It’s in Key West, Florida! Home to pirates, poets, & vagabonds. I’ve only been there once, and that was for 24 hours only, but I loved the laid back, anything goes, fun times vibes. I can’t wait to go back!

From my only visit.

2. I spoke with the race director and she told me her main goal is for this to be a fun race with a fun after-party. I love that!

3. My sister ran this race last year and said it was an absolute blast! And Runner’s World just called it like the top destination 13.1 in USA!

4. Look at these race shirts. So over the top. I can’t wait to wear mine!

The dudes' shirt.

5. Look at these medals. They are conch shells with an actual wine stopper at the bottom. Colorful and practical!

Last year's medal.

6. My mom, dad, sis, & some friends will be running it too! It’s my dad’s first half. Should be a good first one!

7. It’s a running race. And running is my favorite!

Anyways, I’ll be writing more about this as I prepare for this race. But in the mean time, if you want to register, better hurry up, it’s on way to selling out!

And get this, if you can’t make it to Key West, well you can run a virtual race and still get all the cool swag.

You can virtually join the race virtually.

So there you go, kids! Good times ahead!

How bout you? Want to join us? How over the top awesome are those shirts? Holla at me if you’ll be joining in person or virtually!

Boston Marathon Tribute Run

I’m sure by now, most people know how amazing the Boston Marathon went today.  From the gutsy performances, to course records, to MEB! winning it all for USA and the City of Boston, it was amazing.  Made even more amazing when I learned he had the names of the bombing victims written on his race bib.  No wonder he found the motivation to hold on at the end.  So inspiring.

I also followed along online the progress of my friends running the race.  Very cool for them – they don’t know it, but I was cheering for them from Texas.  I hope to join them in that race one day.  I’m not sure how, but I will try to find a way.

In the meantime, the best I can do are tribute/virtual runs.  This year I participated in the Boston Marathon World Run.  That way I could at least feel I had a small part in it.  And hey, they sent me some virtual awards for completing my pledged distance.

Additionally, I decided to run my own little virtual Boston ‘mini-marathon’.  I couldn’t be in Boston to run 26.2 miles, so instead I ran 2.62 at home.

Told ya I did.

Told ya I did.

Anyway, not much more to say.  One year after the the bad guys tried to scare us, the whole world came back bigger and stronger than before…and we keep on running.

How ’bout you?  Anybody run on Boston Marathon day?  Anybody else inspired by the race?  Tell me something!
