Undressing Runners, Trespassing Yoga & (not) Passing up Tacos!

Sup kiddos? Keep it real? Rock n rollin? I hope so. As for me, I’ve just been tryin to stay gold.

Chi Marathon training is in full wreckx n effect. It’s goin good so far. This weekend’s long run was with WRRC’s Run My Hood series. And it was hot.really hot.and humid. But crushed a 14 miler…Followed by a pool party!!!

Get me in that pool!

If that wasn’t a salt water pool to start with, it is now.

This run started bright dark and early with a smaller group of folks who needed the extra miles.

We got in a quick 6 miles before heading back to meet up with the sleeper-inners.

This group is known for running in various states of undress.

I’m not gonna lie, I had a really hard time on the second part of this run. The sun was up and it was really really hot. I struggled. It was just one of those bad runs we all have from time to time. As soon as we finished I started to cramp up a bit and had to bust out an impromptu yoga sesh in a stranger’s yard.

I CANNOT believe my "friend" took this photo of me. At least a passing car gave me a honk doe!

I CANNOT believe my “friend” took this photo of me and put it on the internetz. At least a passing car gave me a honk doe…I still got it, baby!

Even though it wasn’t the best run, I’m thankful I had friends who helped me through it – especially the last few miles!!!!

And afterwards, of course was the funner stuffs! Woot wooot!

Oh, and we couldn’t wrap up the morning without one last mandatory group photo.

See, various states of undress.

See, various states of undress, I told ya.

Double oh, this may have also happened…

Don't judge us early morning taco eating margarita drinkers. I mean, I'd been up since 4am for crying out loud.

Don’t judge us early-morning-taco-eating-margarita-drinkers. I mean, we’d been up since 4am for crying out loud. It was like afternoon to us. It’s 5am somewhere, #amiright?

Other than that, the mileage is starting to ramp up. 45 big ones this week. Stay tuned for updates…and more taco pictures.

How bout you? When is too early for tacos/margs? Ever down-dogged someone’s yard? How undressed do you get (when you run)?

Running in “Da Hood”, Becoming Fashion/Yoga Expert & Free Lululemon Gear!!!

I’ve been cray cray bizzay. Let’s catch up, shall we?

Chicago Marathon training has kicked in and I’m pretty excited about it. For this, I’m going to continue to do my long runs whenever I can with WRRC. Solid folks.

hhh

Last week’s subtle group.

It’s summer now, and that means they do a lil’ thang called “Run My Hood”. Basically, each week we meet at the house of a different runner and run their favorite neighborhood course. It’s pretty cool. I’ve often thought on my own neighborhood runs how I’d like to show other people “my route”.

Anyway, the best part of the run is the after-run. Hey hey, pool part-ay today-hey!

Lounge.

Chill.

Fresh.

Fresh.  BTW, Snapchat – @piratebobcat – hit me up, fool!

As always, I like to incorporate cross training into my…well, uh, training. The trails are all flooded in North Texas, so that’s a no-go. But it can’t rain in yoga class (well, except maybe rain sweat).

My elf friend and I finally mastered "Partner Chair Pose".

And I gots to give a big shout out to Lululemon. At yoga practice the other day, the employees called me up to the front. They said they wanted to thank me for being a regular yogi, “Go pick out any yoga mat…it’s yours!” I was so surprised and honored…and PUMPED!

The mat my foot finally chose.

The mat my foot finally chose.

It was so cool of them to do that. And I gotta say, this mat is like night and day compared to my old one…or is it like day and night, IDK. What I do know is the quality of this mat is top notch. No slipping when I sweat, good padding, solid construction – just incredible.

And bonus, my looooooong time friend (you can see her in a couple group run pics above) has been at these yoga seshes because the studio she goes to and teaches at is putting on the classes!

Meet Virginia. She never compromises. Loves babies and surprises. Wears high heels when she exercises. Ain't it beautiful?

Other than that it’s been sweaty doggy walks. And seeing as I’m an fashion expert, I made a quick tutorial on how to look good as you walk the hound.

Of course there’s lots of other stuff goings on, but I’ll save it for the next post…I don’t want to tire your pretty little heads too much today. Have a great weekend, hombres y mujeres!

How bout you? Ever get to run someone else’s “hood”? Ever been rewarded by a business you regular (other than the corner pub)? Ever Meet Virginia?

PS – Best of luck to everyone running Grandma Marathon this weekend! I have a few Dallas friends there – Look for them – They’ll probably be in tops with “WRRC” on the front and “Run Free” on the back. Slap em on the backside for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Runin, Partyin, Yogain, & Rule Breakin

Ya know how people always annoyingly say that they need a vacation after their vacation? Well, I think many of us exerciser-type people need a weekend after our weekends. Man, weekends are ex-haus-ting.

Saturday I was up early to run with the White Rock Running Co-op. I ended up going 11 miles. There’s some great runners in this group. And we had another rare break in the heat – it was an unheard-for-August-mid-60’s in the morning. Awesome.

Are we runners, or are we human?

Are we runners, or are we human?

Humidity was still hovering around 90% though. Someone commented that it was hard to breath. All I know is my shorts were so heavily soaked in sweat that they were coming down. Hello! Had to keep retying the string tighter.

It’s all good though cause we cooled down after with a pool party.

Got it made in the shade.

Got it made in the shades.

This is such a great idea. It was potluck style, but the hosts also fired up the grill and had a cooler of adult style bevvies.

Sunday I was up early again for a solo trail run. Due to some rain earlier in the week, there was a big sign that read, “Trail Closed”. But something I learned once from my grandma, “It doesn’t say who it’s closed to. That sign could be meant for anybody.”

So I climbed over the barricade and ran. It was nice to have the whole trail to myself – well except for all the critters scurrying about (including the box turtle I had to move off the path).

The trail isn't really that squiggly, I was looking for my keys.

After four sweaty miles, it was time for yoga. Yoga is always more difficult when you’re on tired legs (and arms and torso and brain). But I got through it and that should make all the body and mind parts stronger for next time.

The rest of the weekend it was chores, and playing with the kiddos. If you’ve ever played with toddlers, you know how tiring that can be in itself! They are like full-speed non-stop.

But even though it was all tiring, it was all fun! And luckily I didn’t see any nude photo shoots, like I did the other day.

Onward to more!

How bout you? Any good workouts this weekend? Save any wildlife lately? Do you see a sign and think it’s not necessarily meant for you?  Who else needs a weekend after their weekend?

Meeting Pentatonix, Yard Work Workout & 1st Bike Ride

So the other day I was working (I’m a TV Producer) all day at an early 4th of July festival. It was pretty fun. The headlining music act was Pentatonix.

And being that I had an all access pass, I checked out a bit of their performance from the stage in front of an estimated 100,000 festival-goers!

I liked to imagine they were all cheering for me (they may have been).

Notice how the female band member is totally checking me out.

To be honest, I didn’t know much about them going into this event. But since we were interviewing them, I needed to research them. I came to find out that they are very popular and pretty talented. They were also super nice in person.

They asked me to join the group based on some of my youtube karaoke videos.

And they put on a pretty good show to boot.

Between the festival and that morning’s run/boot camp, I was pretty exhausted. The next day I took a rare unscheduled ‘rest’ day. However, I ended up doing 5 hours of yard work. That is a workout in itself. I was left noodle-armed from all the mowing, edging, etc. Imagine how much more tired I’d be if I got around to the manscaping.

Later on we took a doggy walk and the boy was anxious to try his bike out sans assistance – I had taken off the training wheels earlier in the day.  I was shocked that the first ride without the training wheels, he did pretty good!  You can watch the video HERE.

So he can now bike.

He can run.

He's flying (literally).

He gets it from me.

And he can swim.

In da pool.

He gets it from me.

We may have a budding triathlete on our hands!

How bout you? Are you a fan of Pentatonix? Yard work ever double as a workout for ya? Anyone else see a lil triathlete?

Run Training by Swimming

Over the weekend I was still letting my knee heal.  That meant I couldn’t do my proper Disney Dopey Challenge training by running…a lot.  So instead I went to the gym and swam laps.  I know it’s not the same as spending time on my feet, but my knee kneeded rest, so this was the best I could do.

I’m hoping to keep my aerobic conditioning up as much as possible until I can hit the streets again.  Hopefully swimming will accomplish that!

I also went to a tough yoga class.  So I’m glad to say that even though it isn’t the same feeling I’d have if I were able to run the planned 30 mile weekend, but I’m still sore and a bit tired.  So that’s good.

I’ve also stepped it up in the weight room.  I’m hoping that these replacements will still help keep some of my fitness levels up close to where they were.  I’m going to try and run later this Turkey week, so keep the good vibes coming that this was all I needed!

How bout you?  If you can’t go for a run, do you do something to replace it?
