Hump Day & Newbie Runner Alert

Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike.  Guess what day it is? Huuump Dayyy!  (And f you’re fast you can make it a speed hump day)

The past few months, hump day has also been a track workout day.  Today was no different.  The last couple weeks I was doing 800’s, but today I wasn’t feelin it, so I did 400’s and 200’s.  It’s cool, I’m not really training for anything specific right now…just out there to maintain some fitness during the summer heat.

Yes, 400 will be better than 800 today.

Yes, 400 will be better than 800 today.

Even though I wasn’t feelin this workout, I’m glad I got er done.  Ya always feel better after a workout, no matter how crummy you felt going into it.  I’ve never heard anyone say, “I really wish I hadn’t worked out today.”  That’s a dumb thing to waste a wish on.

Anyway, I got some other news.  My brother has decided to join us and become a runner.  My sis has been urging him the past few years to join his siblings in the running community, and now he’s in.

My immediate fams.

Pa, Bro, Me, Sis, Ma, Mumford, and his Sons.  Don’t ask about the alien eyes we have – it was some weird red-eye corrector in the camera.

He signed up for a half marathon this fall!  He didn’t give himself much time to train for it, but he should be all right.  After all, the goal of first race at any distance should be about finishing, and nothing more.

How bout you?  Recruited any new runners?  Having a good hump day? Ever wasted a wish?

Social Run & Mumford & Sons Concert

Last night was pretty epic.  The Mumford & Sons concert was amazing.  We had lawn seats to this sold out show, which is nice cause I could wander around (and dance around).  I couldn’t believe how many friends I ran into at the show.  Sooo many, and many of which I hadn’t seen in months or years.  My sis came to town for it, my mystery brother made a rare appearance, and even the ‘rents were there (thanks to them for driving, btw).  Here’s a few of the pics:

It was a beautiful night with beautiful people.  Funny thing is that when I went to the gym today, I was pretty dang sore.  I don’t know if it was the combination of a week’s worth of workouts, all the dancing, staying up past my bed time, the tailgate chips and brews, or a combo of all of em.  My whole body was pretty achy breaky.  I’m hoping it goes away at tonight’s social run.  A bunch of friends will be at the social run too, and I hope to run with them and shake out the soreness.  If I can do that, guess what the next day is…Rest Day, what what!

Anyways, the show really was amazing.  The crowd stood up the entire concert.  Nobody sat down.  The band even did a few songs acoustically with one mic, and the whole audience had to shush to hear them…and guess what…they actually did shush!  I couldn’t believe out of all those thousands and thousands of people who were drinking funny things and smoking funny things, nobody was jerking it up by making a bunch of noise during that set.

Of course, they ended the final encore with The Cave, which I still sing in my head when I run sometimes, it really gets me going.

Check em out if you get a chance!

Peace out internet!

Morning Crud Run & Mumford & Sons

I don’t know what happened on my run this morning.  Was to be an easy 5 miles, but man did I feel like crud.  I was sore and tired all over.  So weird how you can change like that from day to day.  Yesterday I felt decent on my run.  Today not decent.  Here’s hoping I’ll be back to decent tomorrow.  Oh well, I still pushed through and got it done, that’s what counts right?  Per uge, I was dripping with sweat and covered in gnats by the end.  I’m still waiting for those fall temps to come!

Anyways, I’m glad I got it done because tonight we’re going to the Mumford and Sons concert.  Twas supposed to be a few months back but they had to cancel the day of the concert due to one of the band members undergoing emergency brain surgery.  Luckily he’s all better now and so the band is making up the dates they missed.

Pic from the 1st time I saw them. What a great show it was!

Pic from the 1st time I saw them. What a great show it was!

This will be the second time I’ve seen them.  First was a couple years ago.  I knew their music myself, but since I don’t usually listen to pop radio, I had no idea that lots of other people like them too.  I assumed they were a small indie band that not many people knew – I learned otherwise when I went to buy tix and they were completely sold out!  Luckily luckily luckily my friend is a radio DJ here in Dallas and she was able to hook me up with a free pair the day of the show – score!

Admission: $0.00

Admission: $0.00

Now they’re back, and in an even bigger venue that sold out within minutes.  It should be a blast.  My sis came to town for it, and we’ve got a lot of other friends and families going to the show.  BTW, if you haven’t seen their latest video, it is High Larious!  Check it below.

BTW, I’ve pretty much given up listening to music when I run, but when I did, I could always count on “The Cave” to pick up my pace!
