Chicago Marathon Pre-Training, Lake-Mansions-Taco, & Me Pretty One Day

In case you missed my earlier post, I’m runnning the Chicago Marathon, and I’m super pumped <squeal>!

The race is in early/mid October. So I still gots time before I really need to start training. In the meantime, I’m just trying to have fun running and keep in shape. The other day I met up with WRRC for a nice casual 10 miler.

Taking a quick water break at White Rock Lake.

Taking a quick water break at White Rock Lake (no, I didn’t drink lake water…this time).

Always good running with this group. They’ve made me faster over the past year. And we have some fun along the way.

Another good thing about this group is that they’re always up for breakfast tacos after our runs!

The only bummer that about the Chi Marathon is that since it’s in the fall, that means I’ll have to do my training in the Texas summer. I’ve always run winter marathons, so this is a first. I’ve never envied my friends who are on a 20 miler in August. Blergh.

But for now the weather isn’t too hot. It’s still spring. And it’s bluebonnet season! This happens once a year for like two weeks. And when I saw some on a trail run, I had to take the photo op.

So sexy.

So pretty. And the flowers are nice as well.

Up next I need to decide on a training plan to follow. I have a friend who may make one for me, or maybe Higdon, or my other friend recommends Jack Daniels – tho I don’t like him as much as Jose Cuervo. Gotta figure this out.

In the mean time, I’m going to keep on running and lifting and yoaging.

My foot is ready for practice.

Oh, and fundraising too! I did mention that I’m running this race through charity, right? In fact, I’m already halfway to my goal!!!

Let's make those grey people green!

Thanks in advance!

How bout you? Recommend a training plan? Who still goes for longish runs when not really training? What did you think of my super high tech video?

PS. Good luck to everyone running Boston on Monday! I’ll be stalking rooting!

Runner Mansion Pool Party

I got to meet up again with the White Rock Running Co-op for an early morning long run. We had a pretty big turnout for this one.

The owner of the house told us the hill is their pet cemetery. Errr, bummer.

The owner of the house told us the hill under us is their pet cemetery. Errr, what?!?

Some of us got there an hour early to get in some extra miles. I settled in with a crew going at a decent pace for me. We went 5 humid and hilly miles. Then we met up with the main group to run some more. By then the sun was coming up and it was hot as crap!

Oh, did I mention this run was hosted at a mansion?!?!

Excuse me...do you have any money that I ca,n like, have?

Excuse me…do you have any money that I can like, have?

I added another 4 miles with the main group (That’s 9 total miles for all you arithmetic-challenged folks). I wanted to go further, but the heat and humidity really zapped my energy.  I had to stop a few times to pour cold water on my head.

Ala Salt, you can see the humidity.

Ala my blogging buddy Salt’s pic, you can see the humidity here too.

Luckily the mansion had a huuuge pool for us to cool off in.

I also got to catch up my pal Virginia (who’s also a runner). That’s another bonus of showing up to group runs ~you never know who you’ll run in to! (see what I did there?)

Yes Virginia, there is a Running Clause.

Yes Virginia, there is a Running Clause.

I also got to make some new friends.  Ya know, cause we all need more people to talk about running with!

I almost wore those same pants.

Anyway, like you could maybe see in my Vine above, the pool area also had a full outdoor kitchen with food, a keg, margarita machine, sand volleyball court, outdoor shower, etc. I felt like I was in an episode of Cribs!

I call this one "Boy flying paper plane that is really made out of metal".

I call this one “Boy flying a paper plane that is really made out of metal”.

And being that I’m so sophisticated, I was able to blend in…because I’m fancy as crap!

I've always been Klassy with a capital 'K'.

All in all it was a good time!  Now I just need some more money so I can get a mansion and host runs.  Maybe I’ll start a Kistarter campaign.

How bout you? Hang out at mansions much? How do you handle running in the heat?  Who wants to pledge funds to my Kickstarter?

-Scott

PS – It’s been crazy busy around here and so I’ve been “offline” the past few days. Can’t wait to catch up with everyone!

Runnin Past Celebrity Mansions & Pool Party

This weekend I met up with the White Rock Running Co-op for a “Run My Hood” run.  One of the members hosted a long run from their house…which happened to be right by a lot of the fancy pants mansions here in Dallas.

Bonus points if you can spot me.

Bonus points if you can spot me.

I didn’t have my photography device with me on the run, but trust me, these mansions were huuuuuuuuge!    Massive.  Of some of the famous people’s homes I saw were Mark Cuban, Dirk Nowitzki, and G. W. Bush.  Not sure who all else we passed, but when you see a house with it’s own football stadium (complete with scoreboard) in it’s side yard, then you know they’ve made some dough.

Anyway, I got in 7-8 miles on this steamy Texas morning.  And afterwards we cooled off with a little pool party!

Stop looking at me swan.

Stop looking at me swan.

It was a great way to see a part of the city that I normally don’t hang out in (Come on Dirk, invite me over!).  And of course we got to run with some cool peeps and then celebrate after.  I love celebrating the small things.  We should all do that more often.

How bout you?  Ever run past mansions or famous homes?  Ever celebrate little things?  Which is better – shampoo or conditioner?  Who got that last reference?
