20 Miles Runnin, Soccer Time, & Winning Yoga

This weekend I got twenty miles running. Not all at once, but split into two. Saturday I met up with some folks to run 13 miles.

We ran there and there and there and there.

We ran there and there and there and there.

After the run, we got breakfast tacos of course. Sorry, no picture, as I had no time to dilly dally. I had to get to the boy’s soccer match (which I was coaching). And the most important thing, they won! they had fun!

I'm hoping to be named coach of the year.

I’m hoping to be named ‘coach of the year’.

The next morning I was up early again for a trail run sponsored by a local running store. I got in 7 naturistic miles, then got to catch up with friends.

Old runnin buddies. I mean, they're not old, I've just known them for a hot minute.

My old runnin buddies. Er, I mean, they’re not old, I’ve just known them for a hot minute.

I also caught up with folks I don’t know as well.

There was food. And also shadows.

Sadly, I couldn’t dilly dally too long (when will I ever get to dilly dally?!?!) as I had to get to yoga class. But after 20 miles of total running, my quads were not loving the chair pose. Or the warriors. Or pretty much any pose other than ‘dead man’ pose.

After practice we were presented with the green yoga mat. Given to the winners of that day's sesh.

So now I’m tired. And sore. And I’m very thankful for my rest day. And also sleep. I want more sleep. The process starts over in the morning. Bring it!

How bout you? Get in some good miles this weekend? Anyone know how to dilly dally? Anyone ever win yoga class?

Call Me ‘Coach’, Runnin & More Tacos!

Howdy Folks!  So something happened.  I’m now in charge of a bunch of utes.  What had happened was that we signed our 5 year old up for a soccer league.  Well, on the entry form it asked if I’d be willing to volunteer coach if needed.  I said, “Sure.”  Not thinking they would really need me.  Well, they did and they do.

All I had to do was pass the background check.  Luckily I did…whew!

Would you trust this...man?

Would you trust this…man?

Luckily I’ve played my entire life, so I should be aight.

And I have coached before.  For several years I volunteered with a couple different organizations to help coach people training for half and full marathons.

As for futbol, I have coached kids soccer before, tho it’s been several years.  But the orientation I went to last night did get me a bit excited for it.

Bend it like Evans. I can beat you with one arm tied behind my back.

As for running, a few weeks back I upped my game.  I’ve gone from running 5 days a week to 6.  I’m digging it – it’s easier to get more mileage this way!

And the more I run, the more tacos I get to eat.  I’ve already had several of these bad boys this week.

Vegetarian tacos!!! Get in my taco hole!

Tacos, running, soccer.  All of that is right up my alley, right there.

How bout you?  Ever coached anything?  Got any advice/drills for coaching soccer kids?  When are you coming to visit so we can get tacos?

Early Runs of Necessity & Hauntings by Children

The weekend that was was a full one.  The wife was working, so that meant daddy daycare doodie duty (OK, there may have been some doodie too (diaper fun)).  And since CCP is so not cool with leaving toddlers home alone so the parents can go to the bar for a run, that meant I had to run before she left for work.  That meant meeting up with my early running friends at 5:30 am. I was able to squeeze 9 miles in with them before I had to head home.

Some of the early run crew sharing a potty break after a recent run.

The rest of the day, it was chasing around the two little monsters as they tried to make as much of a mess in the house as possible.  I swear it’s like living in a haunted house – you hear random unexplained noises and screams, or you leave a clean room, then come back 30 seconds later to find it completely destroyed!  Is it a poltergeist or a toddler?

Sunday was more of the same.  I got up early to get in a quick 3 miles before going to yoga.  And this yoga class was a tough one.  People were struggling.  But it made us stronger, right?  The rest if the day involved more kiddie games.

The two year old made a Mr Potatohead. Let your nightmares begin now.

Mix in a few household chores, doggy walks, and trips to the park….by Sunday evening I was exhausted.

With two dogs and two toddlers, It's never as peaceful as the photos make it seem.

Trying to burn off some of their nonstop energy.

Keep calm and slide on.

Keep calm and slide on.

Just a few thumbsuckers.

Just a few thumbsuckers.

In fact, I pretty much passed out as soon as the wife got home….that is until I was suddenly awoken by a large crash.  The boy for some reason knocked over cabinet in his room that shattered a piggy bank that was on the floor for some reason.

We're totally innocent.

We’re totally innocent.

I heard once that they took a very fit marine and had him shadow a toddler and do everything the same.  By the end of the day, the marine was completely spent.  I totally feel for him.  Maybe that should be a new book I should write – The Toddler Workout.  It’s that thing where you never sit still, you run everywhere, and you keep your energy up with sugar and carbs.  I’ll get working on that.

How bout you?  Good weekend of workouts?  Every been in a house ‘haunted’ by a child?  Want to pre-order a copy of my new book?

Weekend Recapin’: Runnin’, Walkin’, & Yogain’

Like most of us, the weekend started with a ‘long run’.  I took our dumb dog with me (the smart one has bad hips in old age).  I didn’t really have a plan, but thought 9 miles would be good.  It was.  I felt aight.  Picked up the pace as I went and ended up with an average pace around 8:30 something per mile.

And of course, since the weather is nice, we’ve been taking the both dogs (dumb and smart) and the rug rats (both are smart, of course) on walks.  They love it when we have time to stop at the park to play.

Keep calm and slide on.

Keep calm and slide on.

Sunday the weather experts on TV had predicted crazy winds, hail, massive storms, and basically the end of days.  Turned out it was only a little windy.

Either way, I needed a yoga sesh, so I met some friends at Lululemon for their weekly practice.  It must’ve been a tough class cause there was lots of grunting (not from me), and today I am sore in parts.  Afterward I snapped a pic of our group, but didn’t like the way it looked, so it got deleted.

Sorry folks. I know how much you wanted to see another selfie of me and my motley crew.

Anyway, the weather has been pretty decent, and the flowers have taken notice.  Everything is in full bloom now, so my mom took the rug rats to the arboretum check some of them out.

I'd like to point out some of my favorite plants...there's the green one, and the other green one, and that green one...

And to top it all off, my Dallas Mavericks won their playoff game in dramatic fashion with a three pointer at the buzzer.  Which was good, because when the Mavs win, “It makes for a much more pleasant household.” (according to the wife)

How bout you?  Good weekend?  Flowers flowering?  Run, yoga, or other workouts?  Goin on any walks?

What a Weekend!

So much happened this weekend that it will probably take all week to write about it all.  Today I will give you a summary:

Friday – Went to visit a friend who works at a Sports Chiro joint (pun intended) inside a Tri store.  Got to test some recovery equipment and attend a talk by an Olympian and world champ triathlete – Jarrod Shoemaker.

Saturday – 4 mile run.  Then took the toddler to his first hockey practice.  Oh yeah, Mike Modano was on the ice too playing with the kids.

Me and Mo.

Me and Mo.

Sunday – 14 mile run.  Then got the new iPhone.  Then an awesome patio lunch.  Then took the toddler and went to a pub where we met my dad and watched the Browns play like an actual football team.  Also, saw the Indians and Rangers make it to the post season!  Also, the Steelers still suck, and that’s a good thing.  I also ate a naughty snack as I heard that a new world record was set in the Marathon!

What else?  Oh yeah, this weekend I got nominated for FIVE Emmy Awards!!!  Did I mention that I’m a TV producer when I’m not running?  Here’s a pic from last year where we added #7 to the trophy case!

Don't be fooled by the fancy photo, I'm actually not wearing pants.

Don’t be fooled by the fancy photo, I’m actually not wearing pants.

I’ll give more in depth descriptions of what went down as this week progresses.  For now, just enjoy this picture of the 4 year old in his first ever hockey gear!

He looks serious!

More to come, stay tuned!  Until then, let me know how your weekend went!!!
