Post Storm Run, Lululemon Taco Futures, & Johnny Football to Cleveland!

Last night was supposed to be the popular Katy Trail 5k and After Party for many of my friends.  But Dallas had a massive windy thunderstorm blow through town and they had to cancel the event.  Bummer for those runners.  The weather did clear up later on and so a group of us met at Lululemon for Thursday Night Social Run.

Notice the folks still wearing their race bibs. At least the got used somehow.

I got in a quick 5k at a 7:20-something pace.  It was a bit slippery and humid, but not too bad.

“Rock on!” says my hands.

Afterwards we did the social part of our run and went to a local joint for a little grub and a little brew.  And one of the organizers of TNSR had a surprise – Lululemon gave him some gift cards to a pretty ba-darse local Tex Mex hotspot as a ‘thanks’ for hosting so many of our runs at their store.  He decided to have a number guessing contest to give them away.  And guess what else?  I guessed correctly and won one of the cards!!!

Yes! More tacos are in my future! Thanks TNSR and LULU!

Anyway, as we socialized, the NFL draft was on the TV’s.  Being that I live in Texas, Johnny Manziel gets a lot of attention around here…as he also does nationally, but more so here.  So all eyes were on him.  Many people wondered if the Dallas Cowboys were going to draft him.  But they did not, instead the team I root for picked him.  Yup, he’s going to the Cleveland Browns (I’m originally from Ohio, hence my team choice).

I do not know if he will be a bust or a hero, but either way it’s bringing a lot of energy and attention to the Browns.  Something they haven’t had in a long long time.  They have been a bad team for even longer.  It’s been hard being a Browns fan, but we are loyal.

All aboard the Browns Bus! My Dad, my boy, and I before the game last season they played here against the Cowboys.

Here’s hoping the Browns finally reward some of our loyalty!

How bout you?  Ever had a race cancelled (They also cancelled the Dallas Marathon back in Dec due to ice)?  Who loves free tacos in their mouths?  What do you think of Johnny Football going to Cleveland?  Who’s your NFL team (I know Salt, you root for the evil 😉 Ravens)?

What a Weekend!

So much happened this weekend that it will probably take all week to write about it all.  Today I will give you a summary:

Friday – Went to visit a friend who works at a Sports Chiro joint (pun intended) inside a Tri store.  Got to test some recovery equipment and attend a talk by an Olympian and world champ triathlete – Jarrod Shoemaker.

Saturday – 4 mile run.  Then took the toddler to his first hockey practice.  Oh yeah, Mike Modano was on the ice too playing with the kids.

Me and Mo.

Sunday – 14 mile run.  Then got the new iPhone.  Then an awesome patio lunch.  Then took the toddler and went to a pub where we met my dad and watched the Browns play like an actual football team.  Also, saw the Indians and Rangers make it to the post season!  Also, the Steelers still suck, and that’s a good thing.  I also ate a naughty snack as I heard that a new world record was set in the Marathon!

What else?  Oh yeah, this weekend I got nominated for FIVE Emmy Awards!!!  Did I mention that I’m a TV producer when I’m not running?  Here’s a pic from last year where we added #7 to the trophy case!

Don't be fooled by the fancy photo, I'm actually not wearing pants.

I’ll give more in depth descriptions of what went down as this week progresses.  For now, just enjoy this picture of the 4 year old in his first ever hockey gear!

He looks serious!

More to come, stay tuned!  Until then, let me know how your weekend went!!!

2012 Year in Review #blog

I do a lot of stuff.  When you do a lot of stuff, sometimes you forget some of the stuff.  So here’s my look back at the stuff of 2012 that really stands out:

We kicked off the year in Orlando for the Disney Marathon.

Feeling like a princess coming out of Cinderella's Castle with my sis.

Waving to my fans coming out of Cinderella’s Castle with my sis.

One of the coolest experiences of the trip though, was getting to go to a “secret” meeting with the rodents of the house.

Not only that, but our toddler got to run in his first race!

I'm assuming those are moisture wicking jeans.

Then, unlike most years, I had a birthday.  I was lucky enough to spend it with friends on a patio.

Around the same time I ran two Rock n Roll 1/2 Marathons.  One in New Orleans, one in Dallas.

The Ferris Bueler Wheel was closed.

Hey Mister! I like your "throw".

Then I went to a bunch of spring/summer concerts.  DMB, Edward Sharpe, Flaming Lips, etc. etc. etc.  But Buffett is an annual must!

I also changed my mailing address to Margaritaville.

What else happened?  Oh yeah, we had a baby girl.

Who says you never get to sleep after you have a baby?

I got to act in another movie (still in post-production at the time of this posting.)

Acting like I know what I'm doing.

Speaking of making film & television magic, I was lucky enough to win several more awards for my productions…Including my 4th Emmy!

Then three generations of Evanseses got to dust off our Cleveland Browns gear and watch them play in person at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.  It was a rare treat for us Dallasite Browns fans!

All aboard the Browns Bus!

Speaking of rooting for teams, I’m a big fan of FC Dallas, and I was fortunate enough to briefly be a part of their dance team.

Guess which one of us forgot to shave their legs.

Speaking of hanging with famous folks…I get to meet them in my line of business, and one of this year’s highlights was getting to interview The Bangles.  Cool ladies.

I taught them how to walk like an East Texan.

Afterwards I was briefly employed as the official guard of the Alamo.

Yosemite Sam would be proud of my moves. He would then be sad that they no longer serve "Pie Alamode."

As the year wound down, the elves got to meet the big guy, St. Santa himself.

Finally, Santa granted our Xmas wish, as we were able to go to Shreveport, LA to see the mighty Ohio Bobcat Football Team win the Independence Bowl!  This is a big deal.  After watching the team struggle for decades, they are finally good!  This was their 2nd ever bowl win and their 2nd bowl win in consecutive years.

So there’s some of the stuff from 2012.  In between was a lot of other stuff – races, friends, shows, good times, adventures, etc. but these are some highlights.  Looking back it was a pretty dag nab good year.  Here’s hoping that 2013 is even better!  And here’s hoping your year was also happy and next year even happier.

Peace and love!
