Valentines Day Run, Under/Over the Weather, & Keepin it Real!

Sup playas? Oh really? Cool. Me? I’ve been a bit under the weather lately – literally and figuratively. Texas got some of the arctic coldness that most of the rest of the country is dealing with. Granted, we don’t have mounds of snow anywhere, but the temps went from the 70’s one day, to the 20’s the next morning. I think that’s why I’ve been sickly the past few days. When I can, I still run tho!

I had to take this screen shot a few days ago when I realized I was .1 mile ahead of my friend so far this month. Had to tease her...had no choice! ;)

On Valentines Day I had to get my miles in early, luckily one of my run buds agreed to join me. We got in 11+ miles with some hill repeats mixed in.

After, we popped into grab some hot tea and found a photo op…

Bunny ears makes me sad.

Other than that, just been try to keep it real. You should try keeping it real, it’s fun. I got to hang with the rugrats a bunch…

I wonder where he gets it from?

And if you don’t know, when I’m not exermasizing, I’m busy making TV Magic. I got have a shoot with long time friend and great on-camera personality, Ashley Kamrath. Stay tuned for the finished videos!!!

Bienvenidos a mi hammy.

And to my blogger friends, I apologize for being somewhat absent lately. Like I wrote – I’ve been busy and sickly. I look forward to catching up!

How bout you? Under or Over this weather? Did you run on Valentines Day? How you doin?

Shortly afterwards though, I was going for a run, tripped, felled, and Nancy Kerriganed my own knee.

I was able to eventually get active again by doing a lot of yoga in a retail store.

Eventually my knee felt better and I got back on the roads with some of my fave people. Like Thursday Night Social Runners.

They like to run at like 5am. They cray cray.

I also made a few Luke’s Locker social trail runs.

Some of the group, but not all of the group.

Run trails, eat pancakes. Repeat.

And the White Rock Running Co-op, who really helped me to become a better runner this year.

WRRC. Good runners.

To help fuel my workouts, I ate lots of tacos. Lots.

Legit, son!

In between training, I also got to see some of my fave bands…like at this FREE concert – The Killers!

About 30 rows deep, my mouth a gasp with excitement.

Then came the Fall. Autumn is always a time of change. For us, a big change was the boy starting kindergarten. Where does the time go???

He's grown about 5 times his size. Based on that growth rate, I figure he'll be about 80 feet tall by his 20's.

I even volunteered to coach his soccer team. That was a lot of fun!

Fall also saw a lot of PR changes. Starting with the Oktoberfest 5k – 21:33. When you PR, you have to celebrate…

Next up was the Dallas Mavericks 5k. Another PR!

One sad change was that we lost our oldest doggy this fall. She was such a great pup.

But in happier times, I set another PR at the North Texas Turkey Trot 5k 20:04. Bummer was the course being .1 miles short.

Stop looking at me turkey.

Next up was the Rudolph Run 5k. And yet another PR – officially 21:29, but my watch had the course being long. According to it I came across at 20:50-something. Either way, I got 2nd in my age group!

Last year's race was cancelled due to ice. So I got two medals!

The final race of 2014 was the Dallas Half marathon. No PR this day, but still got my 2nd fastest half – 1:45:01.

Big state, little medal.

And as part of the Dallas Marathon festivities, I got to meet MEB!!!!!!

The end of the year was spent with friends and family for the holidays.

Looking back, it was a pretty good year. Lots of tacos, shows, good times, and running. In fact, I went over 1,200 miles on my feet. I even surpassed 5,000 miles total with my Nike+ watch – starting when I got it a few years ago.

5 g's over the past few years.

Here’s hoping 2015 will be even better! Happy New Year, y’all!

Today’s only question: What’s your top 2014 highlight?

Runnin Hill Repeats…Oh, & My New Emmy Nominations!

I’m proud to say that we’re nominated for two more Emmy’s this year, but I’ll get to that…

At last year's Emmy's. That's #6 I've won so far. Honored!

At last year’s Emmy’s. That’s #6 I’ve won so far. Honored!

But first…I noticed on a couple runs recently that I was really struggling whenever we came to a hilly sections. So what’s the solution? To go run up and down hills of course…doy!

I realized that a while back I had replaced my weekly hill repeat workout with a track workout. This reminded me that I need to mix up my workouts more often. So I went and ran some hill repeats…Fun!

To be honest, I really do kind of like hill repeats. Sick, I know.

Since I’ve reincorporated the hill repeats, I have noticed them getting easier on my long runs. Nice to see results!

Now for the Emmy news…Here’s the Nomination Announcements:

Until the gala comes, I’ll be out there runnin the streets and all the hills! Boojakashaw!

How bout you? Been runnin any hills? Ever hang out with YouTubing German DeeJays? Ever dance with a grown man in a chicken hat and cape?

Weekend Whirlwind: Emmys, Running, and American Gladiators!

I’ll try to keep this brief and let the pictures do the talking.  Friday I ran 17 miles and felt good.  Saturday I ran 2 miles and felt like bricks.  But after that run I got on a plane and flew to San Antonio for the Lone Star Emmy Awards Gala where we were nominated for 5 Emmys!

Looking for the basement at the Alamo.

Then got all gussied up for the brew ha ha.

I wanted to have a duck lipped selfie.

Then went to the ballroom for the festivities where I met a couple guys in nude tuxedos.

This one is for the frosted fitness blogger lady!

Ran into some of my friends who were also nominated for Emmys.  Here’s my buddy Emily Reppert – host of Chevy Hometown Kids on Fox Sports Southwest.

I almost wore that same dress...man, would that have been embarrassing.

Out of the 5 nominations, we took home 2 Emmys!

Pretty cool night!

Pretty cool night!

Since we won 2, I got to make 2 speeches.  I think my jokes were funny.  Others might not be as amused.  haha.

Saying something important, I'm sure.

Saying something important, I’m sure.

The next morning I ran a 7 miler around the city.  Had breakfast with a friend, then flew back to Dallas. Ran into Nitro from American Gladiators at the airport.  2nd time I’ve run into him, so figured it was a sign to have a chat with him.  Very nice guy.  Now he promotes the Gladiator Rock n Run.  Worlds colliding!

Right before we went through the gauntlet!

Once home, the wife and I went to get some veggie burgers.

So my veggie burger wouldn't get lost, the branded it.

I then met up with a bunch of my runner friends for a big tree lighting ceremony.  I brought one of my Emmys, people liked taking photos with it.

We don't always run, we sometimes have other fun.

Yes, it was a Christmas tree lighting.  I don’t know why they did it, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet!  But they lit up the whole square as well.  All the trees are lit, looks nice!

I'm so totally lit right now.

I’m so totally lit right now.

Obviously, it was a tremendous weekend.  I’m still processing it all.  But I’m also very thankful.  I work hard, and appreciate the recognition.

I had to give the golden lady a kiss.

Anyway, how was your weekend?  Which American Gladiator would you like to meet?  Tell me something good that happened to you recently!

First (4th) Flula Video

Likes I said before, when I’m not exercising it, I’m producing it.  I am a TV/Movie producer/editor/writer/talent/shooter/etc.  And lately I’ve been very busy doing it.  So that’s why my blog posts haven’t been consistent lately.  Anyway, I’ve still been running, just not blogging.

A couple years ago I was lucky enough to make a video with the insanely talented Flula Borg.  The video racked up a ton of views and still makes me chuckle today.  Check it out here:

The video also won a ton of awards.  Being that it was so successful, we decided to bring him back to Texas to make some more videos.  While we were shooting them, he got an opportunity to ride on a Zamboni and so we helped him shoot one of his famous Auto Tunes videos.  He just recently finished editing it and here’s what it looks like:

While here, we also shot a quick episode of one of the shows I do called The Scoop.  Here it be:

But now I have finally finished editing the first episode of the new series we shot with him that’s called Rec X.  So it’s kind of the first new video we’ve done together, but really the 4th overall.  I think it turned out pretty well.  Hopefully you agree:

Anykitandkaboodle, we’ve got several shows in the can that need to be edited.  Besides Rec X, we’ve also got some surprises lined up.  Hopefully people will enjoy them and they’ll get their message across.  As you can see, two of the videos feature my friend Ashley Kamrath.  I’m glad she is involved in some of these projects.  She’s a pro!

Time to get back to editing…right after I go for a run, that is.

Holla!
