Video Work

My Friends in Movies, Running Balloons & Postcard From a German DJ!

It’s been another crazy week folks. I don’t even know where to start. That’s a lie, I’ll start with this:

Pitch Perfect 2 comes out this weekend! Why am I mentioning that? Well, because I know people in the movie! So happy for these folks. Especially my buddy Flula.

We will fight you...in a non violent way.

We will fight you…in a non violent way.

I’ve had the pleasure to make several videos over the years with him (I’m a TV producer when I’m not running). So glad that he’s finally blowing up!!! Much deserved! If you want to see any of the videos I’ve made with him, you can do so HERE.

During his last visit - Tall German DJ/Actor/Comedian dudes really fit in well in Texas.

During his last visit to Texas – Tall German DJ/Actor/Comedian dudes really fit in well here.

And bonus, Flula did send me a post card this past week too! And it reminded us runners to stretch our hammies!

Stretch it out boys!

Stretch it out boys! Not sure why you’re wearing prison pants tho.

The other people I know in PP2 is the group Pentatonix. OK, I don’t really know them know them, but I did shoot a video with them last summer.

They asked me to join the group based on some of my youtube karaoke videos.

My friend Emily and I with the band. They asked me to join the group based on some of my sick youtube karaoke videos.

And I got to enjoy their concert…from the side stage!

I liked to imagine they were all cheering for me (they may have been).

I think she’s checking me out.

Other than that, been running like a boss. Gearing up to start my training for the Chicago Marathon in a few weeks.

Solo sweaty smiles.

Kind of looks like a no-legged flamingo. Poor guy – all he needs is one.

I’ve also got a few races coming up this spring, so I’ve been trying to keep with up the track work…even in the rain!

400's with my run bud had me feelin all light headed.

400’s with my run bud @emarsha had me feelin all light headed.

Oh, and yogaing like a boss. Anyone who thinks yoga is easy is someone that has never been to yoga…especially if you run 5 miles right before practice.

Sweat and tears. That was a tough session!

Sweat and tears. That was a tough session!

Now it’s time for more of it all, like a boss!

How bout you? Are you running…to see Pitch Perfect 2? Do you yoga? Flamiliar with Flula?

Valentines Day Run, Under/Over the Weather, & Keepin it Real!

Sup playas? Oh really? Cool. Me? I’ve been a bit under the weather lately – literally and figuratively. Texas got some of the arctic coldness that most of the rest of the country is dealing with. Granted, we don’t have mounds of snow anywhere, but the temps went from the 70’s one day, to the 20’s the next morning. I think that’s why I’ve been sickly the past few days. When I can, I still run tho!

I had to take this screen shot a few days ago when I realized I was .1 mile ahead of my friend so far this month. Had to tease her...had no choice! ;)

I had to take this screen shot a few days ago when I realized I was .1 mile ahead of my friend so far this month. Had to tease her…had no choice! 😉

On Valentines Day I had to get my miles in early, luckily one of my run buds agreed to join me. We got in 11+ miles with some hill repeats mixed in.

After, we popped into grab some hot tea and found a photo op…

Bunny ears makes me sad.

Bunny ears makes me sad.

Other than that, just been try to keep it real. You should try keeping it real, it’s fun. I got to hang with the rugrats a bunch…

I wonder where he gets it from?

I wonder where he gets it from?

And if you don’t know, when I’m not exermasizing, I’m busy making TV Magic. I got have a shoot with long time friend and great on-camera personality, Ashley Kamrath. Stay tuned for the finished videos!!!

Bienvenidos a mi hammy.

And to my blogger friends, I apologize for being somewhat absent lately. Like I wrote – I’ve been busy and sickly. I look forward to catching up!

How bout you? Under or Over this weather? Did you run on Valentines Day? How you doin?

Back 2 Runnin, Birthday Boy, Makin TV & a Bummer, man.

Bummer, man…I’m not in South Florida anymore.

(If you did miss my recap of the Key West Half Marathon, see it HERE)

But it’s good to be home too. Especially to celebrate the boy’s 6th berfday!

We're just a group of mouth-breathers.

We’re just a group of mouth-breathers.

With the hat and shirt, there’s no mistaking who’s day it is.

My fave kind of cake and fave baseball play - bundt.

My fave kind of cake and fave baseball play – bundt.

To burn off the birthday cake, I got back into my running groove after taking a couple days off after the race. The highlights were my weekend runs with friends.

Sunrise run with Marsha.

The next day we tried to run trails, but they were too muddy. Another round of pavement pounding it is!

I see a bunny wabbit...I think.

A bunny wabbit run with Serene. Funny cause we actually saw a coyote on our run.

Other than that, it’s been business as usual. If you don’t know, when I’m not running, I’m making TV shows. And this week I got to go to a fun little training thingy to help keep my skills razor sharp.

Movies aren't as glamorous behind the scenes.

Movies aren’t as glamorous behind the scenes.

So there ya go. And now I go. More miles in the morning!!!

How bout you? Do you see any animals on your runs? Celebrate a birthday recently (aka join a new age group)? What kind of videos would you guess that I make?

PS – Again, if you missed it, you can see here my Key West Half Marathon Recap & my Key West Photo Purge.

Welp, we’ve dun it. Anuther trip around the sun. Looking back, 2014 was a pretty decent year. Let’s take a peek at a few hightlights, shall we?

It kicked off with a BANG! In January I ran the Disney World Dopey & Goofy Challenge. That’s 4 straight days, 4 straight races.

All in all, it was a magical 48.6 miles.

Included in the weekend was the Kids’ Race, where the soon to be 5 year old rocked it!

Medals for everyone!

Oh, and did I mention my sis and ma also did the Dopey?

At Magic Kingdom with our medals.

Shortly afterwards though, I was going for a run, tripped, felled, and Nancy Kerriganed my own knee.

Put me out of commission for a little while.

Put me out of commission for a little while.

I was able to eventually get active again by doing a lot of yoga in a retail store.

Cat, cow, what difference does it make?

I really think yoga is important for everyone – including runners. So I do a lot of it. And besides…

Another part of my cross training is lifting weights. And besides…

Dumbells make you smart...and sexy.

I also like to mix up my runs with track work. And besides…

Eventually my knee felt better and I got back on the roads with some of my fave people. Like Thursday Night Social Runners.

TNSR, Representin

And also my crazy early morning elfen crew.

Pre Run Pic

They like to run at like 5am. They cray cray.

I also made a few Luke’s Locker social trail runs.

Some of the group, but not all of the group.

Run trails, eat pancakes. Repeat.

And the White Rock Running Co-op, who really helped me to become a better runner this year.

WRRC. Good runners.

To help fuel my workouts, I ate lots of tacos. Lots.

Legit, son!

In between training, I also got to see some of my fave bands…like at this FREE concert – The Killers!

About 30 rows deep, my mouth a gasp with excitement.

And the Old 97’s.

And I was super thrilled to see the traveling Broadway show, based on the movie – Once!

And I got to make my annual Jimmy Buffett concert experience…TWICE!

A couple of legends.

Anyways, back to running. I ran a bunch of races. Starting with Abby’s Run 5k, where I won my age group!

Yay! I got a photo with Abby (who the race is named for) and her mom. Ann photobombed us.

During the months of Texas heat, it was really hot, so I only ran a few unofficial races. Like the Boston Marathon virtual run.

Censored Bling.

And the TNSR Beer Mile.

This was a bad idea.

Then came the Fall. Autumn is always a time of change. For us, a big change was the boy starting kindergarten. Where does the time go???

He's grown about 5 times his size. Based on that growth rate, I figure he'll be about 80 feet tall by his 20's.

I even volunteered to coach his soccer team. That was a lot of fun!

Fall also saw a lot of PR changes. Starting with the Oktoberfest 5k – 21:33. When you PR, you have to celebrate…

Next up was the Dallas Mavericks 5k. Another PR!

One sad change was that we lost our oldest doggy this fall. She was such a great pup.

But in happier times, I set another PR at the North Texas Turkey Trot 5k 20:04. Bummer was the course being .1 miles short.

Stop looking at me turkey.

Next up was the Rudolph Run 5k. And yet another PR – officially 21:29, but my watch had the course being long. According to it I came across at 20:50-something. Either way, I got 2nd in my age group!

Last year's race was cancelled due to ice. So I got two medals!

The final race of 2014 was the Dallas Half marathon. No PR this day, but still got my 2nd fastest half – 1:45:01.

Big state, little medal.

And as part of the Dallas Marathon festivities, I got to meet MEB!!!!!!

Me n Meb

The end of the year was spent with friends and family for the holidays.

Looking back, it was a pretty good year. Lots of tacos, shows, good times, and running. In fact, I went over 1,200 miles on my feet. I even surpassed 5,000 miles total with my Nike+ watch – starting when I got it a few years ago.

5 g's over the past few years.

Here’s hoping 2015 will be even better! Happy New Year, y’all!

Today’s only question: What’s your top 2014 highlight?

Losing the Best (Running) Friend

Sweet Bailey Girl.

Sweet Bailey Girl.

We adopted Bailey from a local shelter 10 or 11 years ago. She was just a puppy. A stray they had found on the street. We’ll never know where she came from, but we’re glad she ended up with us.

Sadly, she just entered the big dog park in the sky.

Bailey & Guinness - the Irish Car Dogs.

Bailey & Guinness. Best buds.

When she was younger, I’d take her on my runs. Her short stubby legs trying to keep up. As she got older, it seemed her hips bothered her some, so she stopped joining my runs, but still loved our walks!

I think this is the last photo taken of her (too bad I cheesed it up). It was on a recent walk. Her grey muzzle in full effect.

I think this is the last photo taken of her (we were both panting). It was on a walk a month or two ago. Her grey muzzle in full effect.

She loved people. Even at the dog park, she couldn’t care less about the other pups, all she wanted to do was find humans to pet her. If anyone ever sat down anywhere (home or away), she’d put her chin on their lap, encouraging you to scratch behind her ears.

A few years (and lbs) ago. Her chin was forever on people's legs, just wanted to be petted.

A few years ago. Her chin was forever on people’s legs, just wanted to be petted.

She was also a great sport. In fact, I used her in several short films I made. If you have a few minutes and want to watch them, then here are the links:

Once Upon a Time in Dogtown (Grand Prize Winner at PetFlix Film Festival 2007)

Have a Knife Day (Best Short Tail Winner at PetFlix Film Festival 2008)

My New Best Friend (Official Selection at PetFlix Film Festival 2009)

She liked pirates as much as me.

She liked pirates as much as me.

A few months back she began having seizures. They were short at first – a minute or two, but gradually got longer. The internet and the veterinarian both said it can happen to older dogs. Could be a brain tumor. But as long as she was happy, then it was ok for now. She was happy.

She had the most soulful eyes.

She had the most soulful eyes.

Around 5am the day before Thanksgiving, I heard some noises coming from the living room. I went to investigate and it was Bailey having another seizure. There’s not much you can do, except move stuff out of the way so she doesn’t hurt herself. Other than that, just comfort her. So we comforted her…for nearly an hour. By far the longest episode. By far.

Finally it slowed down, but she wasn’t snapping out of it like previous times. I knelt next to her and put my hand on her side. I could see the breathes get shallower and shallower, but I could still feel a heart beat.

Then the heart beat stopped. It just stopped. I still can’t believe I felt her last heart beat with my own hand.

Always a happy pup, with so much intelligence in those eyes.

Always a happy pup, with so much intelligence in those eyes.

I didn’t know what else to do, so I went on a run to clear my head. I made sure to run her favorite routes. I think she was with me in spirit and enjoyed being able to get back out there like when she was younger.

When I got back, the kids were waking, so we let them say goodbye to her. She was always so gentle with them.

Bailey and Grif a couple years ago. Just chillin.

Bailey and Grif a couple years ago. Just chillin.

Today we are supposed to pick up her ashes. I’ll be sure to take them with us on our walks whenever possible. She always loved our walks………..

Goodbye sweet Bailey girl.

Bi-Running Weather, Boney Gloves, & Avocado Eye

Happy Day every people! Things have been crazy whack busy around these parts, per uge. And the weather has been bipolar as crap. Most of the week it was freezing. Some days twas really windy, like on track day…

A bare bones run.

A bare bones run.

I still got up early to run each day. I just had to bundle up. And then warm up after with some hottie hot tea.

I mustache you to shave some for me.

I mustache you to shave some for me.

But then it warmed back up to shorts weather. Whateves. Either way, I wanted to make sure I continued my workouts, because I have a race next week! Woot woot! A Turkey Day 5k is a few days away!

This was the scene last year. I hope they get a less pathetic looking turkey this year. He made me sad. Thanksgiving - a sad day for flightless birds.

This was the scene last year. I hope they find a happier turkey.

So far this month, I’m up to 101 running miles with a couple weeks to go! Hopefully the work will pay off. We’ll see…

And in other news, when I’m not running, I’m a TV producer. And recently I got booked to work some hockey games in the American Airlines Center – home of the Dallas Mavs & Stars.

Pondering life from the floor. Sans glow in the dark boney gloves.

I hadn’t been down there since the Mavs 5k & Dallas 13.1 that I ran last month. Both went around the AAC. It was nice this time to be walking those streets instead of running them.

I’ve also been working on some secret run projects I’m excited about…stay tuned for news on them! Shhhhh!

How bout you? Been busy with exercise and work and life much? Anyone racing on Thanksgiving? Any ideas of my secret runs?

Free Race Photos, The Emmy’s, & Destination Run

So some more good news to go with the nearly 5 minute PR in a Half Marathon that I ran over the weekend…today they gave us our race photos…FOR FREE! That is rare and most welcome!

Look, a decent race photo! Feet in the air and all.

Look, a decent race photo! Feet in the air and all. Shirt looks like it needs ironing.

Not as good, but hey, it's free.

Not as good, but hey, it’s free. At least my shirt is less wrinkly.

OK, this one is awkward. I think I tried to smile, but only half my mouth agreed to do so.

OK, this one is awkward. I think I tried to smile, but only half my mouth agreed to do so – either that or I had a mild stroke.

And get this, they also had a short video of me finishing. You can watch it HERE.

Anyway, after the race, I didn’t have much time to celebrate because I had to get to the airport for a flight to Houston. Took a quick video flying over Dallas…

I was off to H-Town for the Emmy Awards Gala. This year we were nominated for two.

Here's looking at you, kid. Hey wait, how did a baby goat get in here?

Here’s looking at you, kid. Hey wait, how did a baby goat get in here?

Anyway, we didn’t win any this year. But that’s more motivation to step up our game! We’ll be back next year!

The next morning I was tired and sore from the previous day. But I looked out the hotel window and saw the Houston Half Marathon going on. Despite the 93% humidity, I decided to lace up my runnin’ shoes and go run along the course for a bit to shake out my legs and to support the racers. I always love running in new places.

IMG_2386

I actually went 4 miles, but my GPS had issues amongst the skyscrapers.

What a crazy few days. Such a whrilwind. But would we want it any other way?

How bout you? How would you describe your race photos? Run an any new cities recently? Tell me something!

Run Mileage Increase & Pirates!

I know I’ve been a bit come and go around these blog parts, but there’s good reason. 1. WordPress is giving me fits and 2. There’s some big stuff in the works. Stay tuned!

3. I’ve also been crazy busy at home and work (and in between). Speaking of work…if you don’t know, I’m a TV Producer/editor/writer/photog/etc…now you know. And I recently put together a fun lil’ pirate video.

If you want to watch it, you can do so HERE. But be forewarned, I wrote it, and that means it’s going to  include LOTS of bad puns (that I find funny).

On the set with my actor friends.

On the set with my actor friends. Luckily the pirate is a happy and not angry.

In running news, I’m happy to say that I’m successfully increasing my weekly mileage as I go. A while back I increased to 6 days a week. And now I run a minimum of 4 miles on those days. So far this month I’m up to 82 miles and we still have a couple weeks to go! I should be over 100 by the end of this weekend!

I have been increasing because I’ve been hanging around a bunch of BQers. They told me I need to run more.

You have to be fast as a unicorn to qualify.

You have to be fast as a unicorn to qualify.

I also read a thing recently about a guy who is contacting as many BQers as he can find online and asking their advice. It ranges all over the map, but the one constant they all agree on is that you need to be running at least 40 miles per week.

I want to run Boston one day, so I’m taking the first step by trying to follow their advice. We’ll see what happens.

How bout you? Did I miss any good pirate puns? You have any Boston hopes? You gettin your miles in? Did you catch the sneaky filthy joke in this post?

Runnin Hill Repeats…Oh, & My New Emmy Nominations!

I’m proud to say that we’re nominated for two more Emmy’s this year, but I’ll get to that…

At last year's Emmy's. That's #6 I've won so far. Honored!

At last year’s Emmy’s. That’s #6 I’ve won so far. Honored!

But first…I noticed on a couple runs recently that I was really struggling whenever we came to a hilly sections. So what’s the solution? To go run up and down hills of course…doy!

I realized that a while back I had replaced my weekly hill repeat workout with a track workout. This reminded me that I need to mix up my workouts more often. So I went and ran some hill repeats…Fun!

To be honest, I really do kind of like hill repeats. Sick, I know.

To be honest, I really do kind of like hill repeats. Sick, I know.

Since I’ve reincorporated the hill repeats, I have noticed them getting easier on my long runs. Nice to see results!

Now for the Emmy news…Here’s the Nomination Announcements:

I’m lucky to have such talented people to work with on these videos. (I’m including photos below in case Jason doesn’t believe that I actually know these people.)

So here’s hoping. Please cross your fingers for us!

If you want to watch the videos that are nominated, you can see the ‘Play’ music video HERE and the ‘Rec X’ episode HERE.

Until the gala comes, I’ll be out there runnin the streets and all the hills! Boojakashaw!

How bout you? Been runnin any hills? Ever hang out with YouTubing German DeeJays? Ever dance with a grown man in a chicken hat and cape?

Please to Enjoy these Running (and not) Links for You

Short post today. I thought I’d share a few things that have been on my mind.

1.  This runner is totally cracking me up! She’s been running routes based solely on the picture the GPS data will create. Most are not SFW, but they are hilarious! Here’s the link:  Running Drawing

Runners World posted a fascinating article about Robin Williams. It’s about his pre-fame running days in NYC. Hello, can you say 34 minute 10K!?!?! Fascinating:  Robin Williams, the Runner

Finally, I went to a funeral the other day. She was the mom of a friend of mine. They are both entertainers and I’ve been lucky to work with them on several videos. One of his personas, David Chicken, is a family entertainer. He travels the world performing for kiddos. Mama Chicken was always at his side (even rapping in some numbers). Check out some of their videos when you get a chance:  David & Mama Chicken

That’s all I got right now. Hope you like the links. Please let me know your thoughts on them.
