Running Dawgs, Party Animal & Humid Tacos!

Sup beaches? Sorry I’ve been blog radio silent, but it’s been a crazy couple weeks with school starting, marathon training, work working, soccer coaching, etc. etc. etc.

In the words of Inigo Montoya, “Let me ‘splain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up…………with Instagram pics1″

Last week’s runs were ‘zing! We had a little “not 1 million degrees” front come through. It was a JOY to get a break from the humidity.

Buuut then the heat and humidity came back. Ah well, it was nice to have a little break to get some of the confidence back. The oppressive heat has been slowing me down, so it was nice to know I’ve still got it in me – just need cooler temps to unleash the beast!

Humid again, but hey, free tacos!!

Humid again, but hey, free tacos!!

I do got some aches and pains and tiredness, but can’t complain too much. That would be bogus. Closing in on 400 miles in this training plan, and feelin fine!

No animals? Not even party ones?

No animals….Not even party ones?!?

In the end, all that matters is that you have fun with it! And I’ve been having a blast with this training! I’ve hit every single planned mile and have got to run with some GREAT people.

Right now we’re in the middle of our highest mileage week yet: 5, 12, 8, 5, 5, 20 = 55 totes. Stuff just got real. But we got this thang! Let’s do this, legs!

How bout you? Catch my two movie references? Did I miss any caption opportunities? Do you have any questions?

  1. You are one of the most patient runners I know when it comes to humidity. You mention it, but you’re not yelling and screaming and telling it to go “BEEEEEEEEP” like I am. I’m SOOOOOOOO tired of it. Need to be more like you when it comes to patience because flipping the weather off does no good.
Anyway, GREAT job with the training. I was thinking I’d like to do that marathon but then I’d have to train through the summer and well, see prior writings.
I don’t know why, but every time I read your posts, I want tacos. How many times a week do you eat tacos?

    • Ha, I am really frustrated with the humidity. I just know it saps so much energy from me that complaining will only waste more of it. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Thank you!!! Yes, that was one of my hesitations before registering – I knew I’d have to train in the Texas summer. Ugh. Lots of people here do it though, now I know their pain!
You need to come run a race here and we’ll eat ALL the tacos!

  2. You’re kicking some serious booty with this training! I can’t even imagine running 55 miles in a week, let alone in Texas with all that heat and humidity. You’re like superman!

    • Thanks so much, Darlin! I’ve got 35 miles down for the week so far, 20 more tomorrow! Trust me, the humid miles haven’t been easy. It’s been a struggle. I keep telling myself that I’ll be stronger for it when the weather cools!

  3. Hi Scott! I have been an absentee blogger for some time, but I have been following your training on IG! The Chi Marathon is coming up so fast, I’m excited to hear how it goes! I find that training in warmer weather is actually good endurance training. Chicago will be much cooler when you run, so hopefully your run feels great. I will be visiting Chicago for the first time in a couple of weeks myself, I was kind of hoping it would be the same week as the marathon..but no ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Happy training!

    • Hi Jamie! I’ve been bad about it too recently. Just too busy lately. I saw on social media that you have a new ambassadorship – that’s awesome!!! I’m really excited about Chicago! Thanks for reminding me that we have cooler temps ahead! I really hope you’re right! Aaaawwwwwwwww dang! I wish you’d be there during the race! Would love to finally meet in person! Can’t you delay your trip? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Or leave a hidden treasure for me to find? Thanks again!!!!!

      • I do have another ambassadorship, thank you!! Yeah, I wish I was too! We are going to a music festival, our travel dates are pretty set in stone…unless you happen to know Gwen Stefani and you can get her to reorganize the whole thing a couple of weeks later ๐Ÿ˜€ I like this idea of a hidden treasure though, I will have to get back to you on that one!

      • This is so random, but last time I was in Chicago I had a friend coming a few weeks later to visit and so I hid a note in a crack under a bar on the 96th floor of the John Hancock building. And she FOUND it! Have a blast at the festival – I haven’t been tight with Gwen since that time I saw her in the mid 90’s at a surprise show in Dallas. Say hi for me! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. No lie, my pastor used that Inigo Montoya quote in a sermon once. I’m pretty sure I was the only one that laughed out loud, but hey, it was funny!

Glad the weather is finally starting to get better…that’ll make it easier as you head into these higher mileage weeks!

    • Hahaha, good for your pastor! That’s awesome! I really really hope the weather is turning for the better. If the humidity would just give us a break!!! Thanks again!!!!!!!
