Chicago Marathon Pre-Training, Lake-Mansions-Taco, & Me Pretty One Day

In case you missed my earlier post, I’m runnning the Chicago Marathon, and I’m super pumped <squeal>!

The race is in early/mid October. So I still gots time before I really need to start training. In the meantime, I’m just trying to have fun running and keep in shape. The other day I met up with WRRC for a nice casual 10 miler.

Taking a quick water break at White Rock Lake.

Taking a quick water break at White Rock Lake (no, I didn’t drink lake water…this time).

Always good running with this group. They’ve made me faster over the past year. And we have some fun along the way.

Another good thing about this group is that they’re always up for breakfast tacos after our runs!

The only bummer that about the Chi Marathon is that since it’s in the fall, that means I’ll have to do my training in the Texas summer. I’ve always run winter marathons, so this is a first. I’ve never envied my friends who are on a 20 miler in August. Blergh.

But for now the weather isn’t too hot. It’s still spring. And it’s bluebonnet season! This happens once a year for like two weeks. And when I saw some on a trail run, I had to take the photo op.

So sexy.

So pretty. And the flowers are nice as well.

Up next I need to decide on a training plan to follow. I have a friend who may make one for me, or maybe Higdon, or my other friend recommends Jack Daniels – tho I don’t like him as much as Jose Cuervo. Gotta figure this out.

In the mean time, I’m going to keep on running and lifting and yoaging.

My foot is ready for practice.

Oh, and fundraising too! I did mention that I’m running this race through charity, right? In fact, I’m already halfway to my goal!!!

Let's make those grey people green!

  1. DONE. Donated! Now git’ runnin’! Love that you’re running for charity! And those blue bonnets are super sweet. 🙂

    • Thanks Colby!!!!!!! You rule! I’ll git running and picture taking for ya! And yes, those flowers are sweet – but fleeting. Only around for like 2 weeks. Ahh well, there’s always next year.

  2. 1/2 way to your goal?! Wow! I’m considering a fall marathon. After having to drop out of the Detroit this past fall due to sickness, I’m a bit hesitant. But the distance is calling to me…

    • You should!!! I haven’t run a full since Dopey last yer, but it started calling to me too. I’m very excited! Let me know what you decide!! Join me at Chicago????

  3. I use a modified version of Hal Higdon’s plans and really enjoy them!!

  4. How exciting! And pretty flowers! I used Hal’s intermediate plan last year and he didn’t let me down. My husband BQed using Pfitzinger if you want to go a little crazy.

    • Thank you! I know Hal is good, and I’ve heard of Pf, but haven’t looked into it. Thanks for the suggestions!

    • PS, last time in Ireland I brought bluebonnet seeds to give to my friends mum – she gave me clovers in return. I wonder if her flowers ever grew???

  5. SO awesome you’re already over halfway to your fundraising goal!
Love that you always go for post-run tacos.
I’ve never followed a plan, but let us know which one you end up going with. The next marathon I do, I’d love to train properly for it 🙂

    • Even closer now!!! And oh yes, tacos after each run. I used to wait until I got home to eat, but I found myself getting light headed that way. Now I eat right away and tacos are so convenient!
I’ll let you know what my plan is – I’ve never run a full following a proper plan, so I’m excited to see how it helps!

  6. Woohoo! 50% of goal already?! That’s fantastic.

  7. I’m excited for you to run the Chicago Marathon!! Definitely on my list of must-do races 😀 Running in the Texas summer will just help build your endurance, right??

    • Thank you! I’m super pumped for it! That’s what I keep telling myself – 20 milers in 90 degree heat can only make me strong for the Chicago weather!

  8. charissarunning

Tacos and running – what more could you ask for?? Happy training! The summer heat and humidity will only make you stronger!

  9. I donated! Can’t wait for my Instagram photo! LOL. I love longish runs even when not training. I think I enjoy them more as there’s no real pressure. That doesn’t make sense, but that’s how I feel. Happy training!

    • I saw that, thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!! I already have an idea for your personalized pic! Stay tuned! 😉 Oh, I totally agree with the long run for fun feeling – a friend invited me to run a 5k race on Saturday, but I knew how badly it would hurt, so I backed out and ran 12 miles with friends instead. Funny how a 12 miler was less intimidating than a 5k! Haha!
