With just a couple weeks until the Key West Half Marathon, I gotta keep at it. So this weekend, I did my best.
Friday wasn’t so good. I didn’t run. I had some weird nausea and light headedness. I even had to pull over my car so I could vomited on the side of the road.
Fast forward to Saturday…I felt less vomity, so I met up with some friends at White Rock Lake early in the morn. The plan was 14 miles @ 8:30 pace. We ended up going a little further and a little faster than planned. Felt good.
After the run, a small group of us went for tacos…duh!
While Saturday was chilly, it was nothing compared to the 30 or so degrees it dropped over night thanks to the Arctic air sent down from Canada. Yes, I blame Canada (can you please fix the Texas weather Mrs. Outdoor Running Adventures?).
I had put a call out to some of my Sunday Runday buds to join me for some chilly miles, but all I heard back was cricket creeks. I guess a 25mph constant wind that causes a 16 degree wind chill wasn’t up their alley.
Anyway, I decided that since the conditions were tough, that I should say ‘screw it’ and make my run even tougher. So I did 7 miles with a series of nasty hill repeats. My cheeks were frozen by the end.
After, I warmed up with some yoga…
So there ya go. Pretty much what you’d expect from me, right? Running, tacos, yoga, misguided blame…Just a typical weekend in PirateBobcat’s world. Love it!
How bout you? Did you get Arctic blasted? Do you blame Canada? Ever make a tough workout tougher just to spite the weather gods?
-Scott
Hey…the lightheadedness and nausea is more than likely an inner ear thing. You might want to have your doctor check and see if you have wax build up. I get it every Spring…but I know people who get it during the winter months, so just a thought.
Nice weekend, sans the hurling.
Thank you! Yeah, sans the hurling – though I did feel a ton better after doing it.
Hmmm, interesting. Hadn’t thought of that. I’ll have to get that looked at. Thanks for the tip!!!!
One other thing. If you’re still experiencing the nausea… My sister has been having the same problem as of late and she’s a runner. She went to a physical therapist and they told her it’s the muscles in her neck. They gave her some exercises to do and she said that it has helped. Just letting you know it might not be the ear wax.
OK, thanks! Yeah, it only lasted that one day. I’m hoping it’s just one of the bugs that’s going around these parts. I ran 14 miles the next day, so I obviously felt better!
awesome! glad you’re feeling better!
Thanks!
Sorry sorry sorry about the Arctic blast. I didn’t know my Canadian superpowers were that effective! 16F is pretty cold for Texas. I’m doing my best to keep the cold up here now (it’s -9F currently, not too bad for Canada). And I always make outside workouts harder to spite the weather gods and basically just to stay alive without freezing to death.
Ha, yes, your Canadian super powers are in full force. It has since gotten even colder! This morning it felt like 8 degrees. Ouch! But -9, Double ouch! I guess I shouldn’t complain. Especially since I’ll be in Key West next week. Haha, I’m glad you’re able to stay alive despite your weather!
Since I moved south, running in the real cold sucks (or does it blow?) and I have become a cold weather pansy. Glad you could get your car pulled over to vomit somewhere other than the dash or yourself. Ew. You remind me to add yoga to my schedule. Thanks. I think.
LOL, nice. I think it sucks and blows. I’m the same way, I grew up in the cold, but since moving to Texas, I can’t handle it so well. Ha, yeah, I barely made it out of the car before hurling (didn’t even close the door. Close one. Yes, get your yoga in, glad I could help!
Sounds like a pretty great weekend. I had wondered how you were faring with that weather. Brutal. If we are blaming Canada right now then we in Chicago are furious. It is chilly here!
Ha, yeah, well, I’m putting up with the weather, but I don’t like it. This morning it was 8 degrees! I got the run done though. Hahaha yeah, I bet you’d be hating Canada much more than me! I know how cold Chi-town can get!!! Ouch!
This is such a piratebobcat kind of weekend.
Haha, it totally was!
Blame Canada for everything!
They’re an easy target. π
Tacos…….no surprise there! Hope your vomity-thing is over. But freezing temps in Texas. Weird. I think the Polar Vortex is east of the Rockies so we’re safe for now.
Tacos are never a bad surprise. Yeah, the vomity thing was only one day, so weird. Yes, we’re definitely in that eastern part of the vortex. It is coooold. 8 degrees this morning!!! Come on Key West!
We are getting arctic blasted right now. Snowing at the moment. I’m impressed that you can get back to the tacos so quickly after being “vomity”. Hope you are feeling better!
Yikes! We don’t have any snow yet, but they say it might this weekend. Yuck! Those tacos tasted so good, I think maybe I should’ve had some the vomity day, that might’ve helped?
Typical. I wish I lived in Texas and could get delicious tacos after every run. Glad the puky-ness was fleeting!
Come get some tacos anytime! Thank you, it was a really crappy day, but glad it was short lived.
We are definitely getting arctic blasted and I completely blame Canada.
There ya go, that’s the spirit!
ughhhh the “vomity” feeling is the worst!
Ha but that didn’t stop your taco loving self!
Weather has been crazy here – hot/cold/freaking freezing/ hot as hell – so everybody is constantly sick!
Ha, good point! I think tacos are my medicine. Sorry about your weather, it’s the same here. And yes, every freakin body is sick here too!
Man, Friday sounds super sucky! I hope that doesn’t happen again.
Ha ha, yes, we’ve had cold. π
Friday was bad, Saturday was great!
Ha, I bet you’ve got cold. Stay warm!
Us Canadians run in that arctic blast…you just have to bundle up dude! It’s only -13 feels like -21 today ((8F feels like -5F) – it’s all good!
Bummer about the vomity feeling – been there recently π¦
Well aren’t you all tough and stuff. Ha, it was our coldest day yet – 8 degrees this morning. But I’m still running. I hate having to wear so many layers, but you gotta.
I hope you’re feeling better!!!
You are hardcore π I’d say enjoy the weather but it’s not enjoyable at all….so enjoy the running!
Ha, well at least when I”m running, I’m sweating. So that’s kind of like being warm, right? π
Gald to hear you are feeling better! That’s gross… We got a super polar artic freezing blast this week in PA too. It’s been snowing all day, yuckkkkk. Today I definitely spite-ed the weather with my workout!
Thank you! But oh man, that sucks about all the freezing temps and snow! Yes, way to spite the weather with your workouts!
We are in the process of getting arctic blasted right now. 5″ of snow today and a deep freeze overnight = treadmill tomorrow. I’m sorry you were sick. I feel like EVERYONE is sick right now. π¦
Yes, everyone is sick around here too. I’m trying to stay away from them so I stay healthy for the Key West Half next week!
Bummer about your weather. They say we might get a wintery mix this weekend, we’ll see. Right now it’s just cold. 8 degrees. But I hate the treadmill so much that I still ran outside!!!
I definitely blame Canada and I’m even married to a Canadian. The fact that he calls NYC “the Tropics” says it all. Glad you’re feeling better! I’m sick now. It’s going around. Also Canada’s fault.
Haha, you are allowed to blame Canada then. There is nothing tropical about NYC…except for the sea. Thank you! And yes, the illnesses is also Canada’s fault…excellent point!
Will you hate me if I tell you we had 86F here on Sunday? Bahahahahaha! π
Yes. Yes I will hate you. LOL, it’s ok, I’ll be in Key West, FL in just a few days now!!!!!!!
Please don’t blame us Canadians π … it’s not like we create the cold air ourselves. And if you think it’s cold in Texas, it is bitter cold here with blowing snow, whiteout conditions and tricky driving. I’d still trade you for 30 degrees right about now!! And getting sick, that sucks. Luckily it seemed to pass quickly enough!
Next time we have a wet sloppy snowstorm that’s “pulling moisture from the Gulf”, I’ll blame you (wink)
Haha, deal!
Haha, sorry about that. I had to blame somebody. My cheeks are frozen! And yes, thank you for putting it in perspective. We don’t even have a hint of snow down here yet, so I guess we’re lucky! Yeah, everyone is sick around here now, trying to avoid them!
K wait, let me get this straight- you threw up on Fri and then went on a 14 mile run, followed by spicy tacos?? Hmmm interesting choice π
LOL, well when you put it like that, it does sound ridiculous. Ha, I started out the run with a short 4 miles to see how I felt. Felt ok, so kept going! And tacos make me feel better, duh!
