New Year, New Race – Key West Half Marathon!

I’m pretty excited for this race!!! On Jan. 18 I’ll be running the Key West Half Marathon! It’s going to be a blast! You should join me if you can!

That's my sis and her friend in the tutus!!!

That’s my sis and her friend in the tutus!!!

Here’s why I’m excited (in no particular order)…

1. It’s in Key West, Florida! Home to pirates, poets, & vagabonds. I’ve only been there once, and that was for 24 hours only, but I loved the laid back, anything goes, fun times vibes. I can’t wait to go back!

From my only visit.

From my only visit.

2. I spoke with the race director and she told me her main goal is for this to be a fun race with a fun after-party. I love that!

3. My sister ran this race last year and said it was an absolute blast! And Runner’s World just called it like the top destination 13.1 in USA!

4. Look at these race shirts. So over the top. I can’t wait to wear mine!

The dudes' shirt.

The dudettes' shirts.

5. Look at these medals. They are conch shells with an actual wine stopper at the bottom. Colorful and practical!

Last year's medal.

6. My mom, dad, sis, & some friends will be running it too! It’s my dad’s first half. Should be a good first one!

7. It’s a running race. And running is my favorite!

Wheeeeee!

Wheeeeee!

Anyways, I’ll be writing more about this as I prepare for this race. But in the mean time, if you want to register, better hurry up, it’s on way to selling out! http://www.keywesthalfmarathon.com/

And get this, if you can’t make it to Key West, well you can run a virtual race and still get all the cool swag.

You can virtually join the race virtually.

So there you go, kids! Good times ahead!

How bout you? Want to join us? How over the top awesome are those shirts? Holla at me if you’ll be joining in person or virtually!

  1. OMG I love Key West and have thought about doing this race for some time. We were there last summer–it’s the best.

    • I’m really excited! I was only there for 24 hours, so I’m glad I get to take some time and explore this time. You should totally run it!

  2. Wow, such cool shirts!! Love them and the medals. Also, very cool about your dad running his first half. I love that your family runs and supports you! That’s amazing! Have a great weekend!! XOXO

    • I’m glad you like them too! Some of my friends thought it was tacky, but I like it! Yes, now my entire immediate family will have all run at least a half marathon!!
Thank you! Hope you’re awesome!! XOXO

  3. That sounds amazing and I’m all kinds of jealous!

  4. The race looks super fun! I ran in Florida, and it’s just too humid for me! Good luck!

    • Yeah, I’ve run Disney several times – so humid in Orlando. I hope the Keys will be less so, but not holding my breath. Thanks!

  5. Early welcome to the sunshine state!! One of the awesome things about being here, it won’t be cold 🙂

The shirts look awesome as do the metals!!!! Have a great time in the Keys!!! Good luck with race!

    • Why thanks! You should come down for the weekend!
Thanks so much, I cannot wait!!!

      • Ill be cheering you on from the East Coast of Florida that weekend (wedding in Cocoa Beach)!

And I recommend getting a “Pain in the Ass” at Fat Tuesdays 🙂 My favorite Key West drink!!!

      • Thank you!!!!!!! Have fun in Cocoa – go to Ron Jon’s and Rusty’s for me!

        Oooh, thanks for the recommendation!!!

  6. Those shirts! That medal! Holy crap. That looks like a ton of fun. Good luck!

  7. Awesome swag! Ya’ll are going to have a blast!

  8. Sue @ This Mama Runs For Cupcakes

I so wish I was running this. A bunch of my running friends are traveling down to run it! I chose Paris instead 🙂 Have a blast! I love Key West!

  9. That’s going to be awesome! I spent some time in Key West for spring break in college, and much fun was had.

  10. Holy awesome shirts Key West runner man. That sounds like it’s going to be an awesome race. I’m sure you’ll have a blast. I’d do the virtual race, however, the shipping and duties would likely result in $65 turning into $165, plus the exchange rate kind of sucks for us right now.

    • Ha, I’m glad you like them as much as me! I’m sure this is going to be a fun race for sure! Ha, bummer about the exchange rate. I had to deal with that when we went to Ireland a few years ago. Not a good exchange at all. Though Mexico had a really good rate! Hola!

  11. That’s on my bucket list one day! Michael and I will be going back there for our honeymoon and I cannot wait! Key West is one of the coolest places ever.

    • I cannot wait for this race! Yes, I love Key West, should be awesome. I’ll try to leave a hidden treasure for you to find on your honeymoon!

  12. What a neato race! Sounds like a blast. I’ve never been there but it sounds like the perfect race for this chilly Michigander!

    • Yes, it will be awesome!!! I’m originally from Ohio, and there are a ton of Ohioans in Florida. I guess the weather is the main draw. I don’t miss the winters, for sure!

  13. You look so serious running. =) The shirts are so…you. That’s very cool the fam and friends will be in on it. Something you all enjoy that’s so good for you to make memories with. You’re off to a rockin’ start this year, S.

    Cheering you on.
    D.

    • Honestly, when I see the photogs, I sometimes try to smile, but I’m usually pushing so hard, that no smiles are possible.
Ha, yes, I will wear this shirt with pride! Yes, I’m excited to spend this time with my immediate family, should be a great experience!
Thanks for the cheers, D! I’ll be hearing them in my head come race day!

  14. This is a race on our bucket list and hopefully we can do it in a few years. Cool shirts too. Good Luck!

  15. This sounds like an awesome race! I’m actually really, really tempted to do the virtual.

    • Well I’ll try to represent on social media so you can live vicariously through me…just like I do through all of your travels!!!
Yes, the race should be a blasty blast. I’ll make sure of that!!

  18. I AM SO BUMMED I JUST LEFT FLORIDA. This one might be on the list for next year!! Can’t wait for your recap. Oh. And selfies of you in that jammin’ t-shirt. 🙂
