Welp, we’ve dun it. Anuther trip around the sun. Looking back, 2014 was a pretty decent year. Let’s take a peek at a few hightlights, shall we?
It kicked off with a BANG! In January I ran the Disney World Dopey & Goofy Challenge. That’s 4 straight days, 4 straight races.
Day 1 – Thursday – 5k (3.1 miles)
Day 2 – Friday – 10k (6.2 miles)
Day 3 – Saturday – Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
Day 4 – Sunday – Full Marathon (26.2 miles)
All in all, it was a magical 48.6 miles.
Included in the weekend was the Kids’ Race, where the soon to be 5 year old rocked it!
Oh, and did I mention my sis and ma also did the Dopey?
Shortly afterwards though, I was going for a run, tripped, felled, and Nancy Kerriganed my own knee.
I was able to eventually get active again by doing a lot of yoga in a retail store.
I really think yoga is important for everyone – including runners. So I do a lot of it. And besides…
Another part of my cross training is lifting weights. And besides…
I also like to mix up my runs with track work. And besides…
Trail runs are also great. And besides…
Eventually my knee felt better and I got back on the roads with some of my fave people. Like Thursday Night Social Runners.
And also my crazy early morning elfen crew.
I also made a few Luke’s Locker social trail runs.
And the White Rock Running Co-op, who really helped me to become a better runner this year.
To help fuel my workouts, I ate lots of tacos. Lots.
In between training, I also got to see some of my fave bands…like at this FREE concert – The Killers!
And the Old 97’s.
And I was super thrilled to see the traveling Broadway show, based on the movie – Once!
And I got to make my annual Jimmy Buffett concert experience…TWICE!
I also got to hangout on stage during a Graceland Ninjaz concert.
As well as Pentatonix.
They were amongst the Celebs that got to hang out with me this year.
And my model friend Brooke Becker.
And long time friend, fashion blogger, and TV host, Hilary Kennedy.
And all around media star, and long long time friend, Ashley Kamrath.
And I made another video with friend & TV host, Emily Reppert.
And I made a new BFF when I interviewed Olympic gold medalist, Jennie Finch.
And my Dallas Half Marathon Champion friend, Logan Sherman.
And model/actor buddy, Shane Land.
And a Dallas Cowboy – Charles Haley.
Anyways, back to running. I ran a bunch of races. Starting with Abby’s Run 5k, where I won my age group!
Then came the Rock the Block 10k. New PR – 46:00!
During the months of Texas heat, it was really hot, so I only ran a few unofficial races. Like the Boston Marathon virtual run.
And the America, F**k Yeah 4th of July 10k.
And the TNSR Beer Mile.
Then came the Fall. Autumn is always a time of change. For us, a big change was the boy starting kindergarten. Where does the time go???

He’s grown about 5 times his size. Based on that growth rate, I figure he’ll be about 80 feet tall by his 20’s.
I even volunteered to coach his soccer team. That was a lot of fun!
And the little girl just keeps growing too!
Fall also saw a lot of PR changes. Starting with the Oktoberfest 5k – 21:33. When you PR, you have to celebrate…
Next up was the Dallas Mavericks 5k. Another PR!
Speaking of which, my brother ran his first half marathon this fall! And my dad is running his first half in January 2015!
The next PR to fall was at the Dallas 13.1 – 1:42:59!
Next was the annual Halloween fun run.
One sad change was that we lost our oldest doggy this fall. She was such a great pup.
But in happier times, I set another PR at the North Texas Turkey Trot 5k 20:04. Bummer was the course being .1 miles short.
Next up was the Rudolph Run 5k. And yet another PR – officially 21:29, but my watch had the course being long. According to it I came across at 20:50-something. Either way, I got 2nd in my age group!
The final race of 2014 was the Dallas Half marathon. No PR this day, but still got my 2nd fastest half – 1:45:01.
And as part of the Dallas Marathon festivities, I got to meet MEB!!!!!!
The end of the year was spent with friends and family for the holidays.
Looking back, it was a pretty good year. Lots of tacos, shows, good times, and running. In fact, I went over 1,200 miles on my feet. I even surpassed 5,000 miles total with my Nike+ watch – starting when I got it a few years ago.
Here’s hoping 2015 will be even better! Happy New Year, y’all!
Today’s only question: What’s your top 2014 highlight?
Looks like a great year! My highlight was crossing the finish line hand in hand with my hubby for his first half marathon, AND auditioning for MasterChef-even though they didn’t pick me, LOL
Thank you! Congrats on your first half, what a cool experience for you! Ahh, bummer about MasterChef, keep working at it!
It was my 11th half, hubby’s first tho, and thanks!!
Ahh, gotcha, I misunderstood. Way to go tho!
Wow, what a great year! I’m very jealous that you got to meet Pentatonix. I’m convinced that Mitch and I would be BFFs. I don’t know how 2015 will top the great year you’ve had, but I’m sure it will! PRs all around?!
Thank you!! Ha, well if I ever get to meet them again, I’ll be sure to let you know ahead of time! And yes, PRs for everyone in 2015!
Sweet recap! What an awesome year you had! So many famous people, but you’re famous so of course you hang with famous people. My 2014 top highlight was totally non running related, it was paddleboarding with Kobi. It only took her 20 minutes to get the hang of it and it changed our lives! Now we can do everything together (except yoga classes, she’s too wiggly).
Thank you!!! Ha, yeah, I’m totally famous. I do get heckled by a guy here who always calls me a ‘minor celebrity’ whenever I see him. Very cool about the doggy paddleboarding. I’m surprised the water was warm enough way up there. 😉 And Kobi should be a natural at the downward facing dog pose
I’m sensing a seriously sexy theme! My best moment was chillin in Kauai with Jesse!
Ha, totally sexy! I’d like to be in Kauai right about now.
WOW WOW WOW!!! What a spectacular year 2014 has been for you!! I loved the walk down memory lane!! Seriously exciting and amazing!! Happy New Year’s Eve!! Have a fabulous start to 2015!! XOXO
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I do like to do the year in review posts, it’s fun to look back. Happy New Year to you!! 2015 will rock! XOXO
I would say it was an awesome year for you! Happy New Years! Looking forward to reading about all of your 2015 adventures 🙂
It’s fun to look back and see all the stuff that went down. Can’t wait for 2015. Happy New Year!
Awesome year! Great pics and milestones! A good moment for me was realizing I cleared my goal of 750 miles. :). Best wishes in 2015!
Thank you! And way to go on 750 miles! Next up, 1000???
To one of my favorite bloggers….
Thanks for all the laughs you’ve given me over the last year. I tried to be healthy with the corn shell tacos, but I relasped to the flour tortillas.
Wow, thank you so much! I try to be silly, I’m glad you get it. Come on, you gotta go with corn. Besides healthier, it tastes better (in my opinion)
Congrats on a great year! I look forward to following your adventures in 2015!
Thank you!! Lookin forward to 2015 too!
That Dopey Challenge is insane! I’m super impressed. How do you even train for that?! My 2014 highlights lasted six months when we traveled Europe, for sure.
Thank you! Dopey wasn’t so bad, just took a lot of training. Oh yes, I remember well your Europe adventure. I’m still jealous
Epic year! Only you make yoga sexy
LOL, thanks!
Wow. What a year. Happy New Year! For some reason I want a taco right now.
Thanks! Happy New Year to you too! Go get a taco!
Ha! You started 2014 big and didn’t stop!
Ha, good point! It was hard to top Dopey though!
::standing ovation:: Holy crap what a year! I’m glad I found your blog, my friend. You are always entertaining and the running is nothing short of inspiring.
Also I totally forgot about that time you fell until just now. That was awful. Let’s not repeat that in 2015, okay?
Why thank you! I’m glad you found my blog too, and that I found yours. Truly a favorite! I know you inspire sooo many people too!
Yes, agreed, no more falling in 2015. It was not fun.
Wow, just wow. How is 2015 going to live up to THAT?! Awesome post…dude you keep me laughing every time I read your posts. Did you really dress up as Alice in Wonderland for the half marathon? That is freaking awesome…and sexy, lol 😉 Happy New Year!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you get my humor! And yes, I did dress up as Alice. That apron is my friends – she got it at Disney World at age 6, back in the day. I couldn’t fit in the dress, so the apron had to do. Someone asked me if I lost a bet. Ha! So sexy!!! Happy New Year!
My running highlight was definitely doing the Dopey. I knew I would finish but wasn’t sure it would be in one piece! It was such a thrilling experience. Looks like a great year!
Yes, I wasn’t sure how my body would react either, but I knew I wanted to get through it in one piece. Success! Happy New Year!
Wow, what a year! I feel bad for 2015, because now it has a lot to live up to.
Oh no, you’re right. Dang, now I have too much pressure on 2015. 😉
