It’s been another crazy few days. Let me start covering it with today’s post on Saturday morning.
First off, I got up somewhat early to run. The humidity was redonk. Like 95%. Plus it was windy and hot. I had planned on going 8-10. I made it to 7…barely.
After the run, it was time for a birthday party. That sounds fun….but it wasn’t.
It was the birthday day of one of the folks I run/workout with on occasion. So what did she want to do…Party? Brunch? Party brunch? Nah, she wanted to lead everyone in a boot camp session. Sheesh.

I know we’re supposed to be in plank, but I’m doing the more advanced version where you put your knees down for a bit.
About 10 minutes after my run, there we were dragging tires, throwing medicine balls, squatting, planking, burpeeing, pushing up…Oh, and we did a sort of plank/push-up workout thing called ‘Sally’. I don’t know who Sally is, but I now hate her.
I did get to thinking (during the exhausting workout) that I’m glad these are the kinds of people that I count as my friends now-a-days. People who want to kick off their birthday with a run, yoga, boot camp, etc. I like that. Sure, we may still celebrate with some margaritas later, but first we’re going to get our sweat on.
Anyway, after the sweatfest, I saw a sign…literally. I saw a road sign that NEEDED a video. So we made one. Below is that video:
How bout you? Do your friends celebrate their birthdays with a workout? Do you know Sally? Have you ever seen such a literal road sign?
-Scott
I love this idea! I just don’t think I would get many of my friends doing that kind of thing. My blogging friends need to live closer to me. 🙂
No idea who Sally is.
And you are a goof! Loved the video though!
Ha, yeah, I used to have only party first friends…funny how things change. Yes, we need to build a little fitness-blog community. 😉
OMG – google video search for Sally workout. That dang song was on repeat, I swear!
Ha, thanks! I’ve been a goof since childhood!
None of my friends would celebrate their birthdays with a workout. Looks like a fun idea though, especially if it ends with sugar cookies!
I saw your video on Instagram and literally laughed out loud. Best thing ever!
Well, used to be that none of my friends would either. But then I changed out most of my friends. I still miss em, and I’ve tried to reach out…but they know how to get a hold of me if they want to. Ha, I have zero sweet teeth, but I brought a couple home for the kiddos – they went bonkers for them!
Ahh yes, I remember your comment! Glad you liked it! Had the idea for a week or so, just needed the other actors!
A workout birthday party… might have to do that next year! I don’t think my friends and family would think it’s a great idea, but whose birthday is it anyways?? Very funny video!
Yes, set it up! Haha, right, I hear you, but they gotta do the birthday girl’s wishes!
we have a few friends that kick off their bday with a workout or run but nothing that extreme. wow sign says a lot but that video just takes it over the top lol. very nice play on words.
Oh really….cool! Ha, thanks! I saw the sign a couple weeks ago and have been waiting for an opportunity to make the video!
That is a hilarious sign! I can’t recall seeing one quite that literal. I usually drag my friends out for a run on my birthday, I only have a few friends for that reason – lol!
Ha, thanks! I don’t know why they don’t call them ‘bumps’ down here. Good for you, but I’m sorry it has driven all your friends away! LOL!
gah I miss bootcamp so much! I keep thinking about all the bootcamp classes I’m going to attend when I get home to work off some of this European food that has made me round.
Ha, you’re the first person I’ve heard that misses bootcamp. Don’t get too round in Italia on all that pasta and parmasean!
I turn the big 3-0 this year. I may have to do something crazy like that. But I don’t think any of my friends would go!
Ha, well maybe you can tell them it’s something else and trick them into it?
OMG that video! That’s seriously what I always think of when I see those signs. Glad I’m not the only one with my mind in the gutter 🙂
Hahaha, thanks! And I’m glad to know I’m not alone with a dirty mind!
Bootcamps are da bomb! But seriously, I truly understand what you mean by how awesome it is to have friends that share your same love of health and fitness. It doesn’t mean you still can’t have that traditional birthday cocktail, but why not make it count with an intensely amazing workout?
I agree! Just a few years ago I was hanging out with folks who still go out partying all night. Even the ones who liked to workout wouldn’t join me for something like this. They’re too busy sleeping off the night. I’m glad my friend group has shifted.
I run a race that always falls a day before my birthday 🙂 Your friends sound awesome!!
Very cool! My birthday is the day after St Pats, so my friends are always too hungover…maybe I need to make my b-day part of the St Pats Day 5k’s we have in town!
PAHAHAHA that video gets me every time. SO WEIRD (yes, coming from me) and HILARIOUS!!! Glad you guys had a (sort of) fun birthday party!
Why thank you!!! I knew you’d like it! Ha, yeah, it was still kind of fun!
haha that video is so goofy but doesn’t surprise me at all. I have never been to or had a workout birthday party but will most definitely be doing it next year for mine! What a fun way to celebrate!
Ha, thanks Jenna! Yes, it is a good idea! One year my friends and I ran a 5k before my birthday brunch…I need to make that a regular thing!
That’s a hilarious vine – omg. Speaking of “workout” birthday parties, I remember when I was in middle school my friend had a birthday party that started off with hill sprints. I think I developed some weird friends early on, haha!
Haha, thanks so much! Really? Hill repeats??? Ha, yes you did get some weird friends early on! 😉
This is such a great idea for a birthday party!!!! And that video is just too funny! Way to go hahah! 😀 xoxo
Haha, thank you! My job is to be a video producer, but my friends weren’t used to it, so they got annoyed that it took 5-6 takes to get it right. Haha!
Haha, I was not prepared for that video! That birthday sounds like fun, exhausting and worth cake afterwards but fun!
Ha, glad I could surprise you…hopefully in a good way! It was a ‘fun’ birthday party!
That is the best video EVER. Hahaha awesome. 🙂
I love those kinds of friends. This is giving me so many ideas for my next birthday. And those cookies look all kinds of delicious!
I believe I know who Sally is. One of my yoga instructors invites her to class sometimes. She’s a real jerk.
Hahaha, thanks Salt! Yeah, it was tough, but still pretty cool. I’m not a sweets fan, but I grabbed a couple cookies for the toddlers (who totally are). Can’t wait to hear your birthday plans!
Oh really? Yoga Sally? Ouch! She’s a total B!

That video just made my day. WTF is a speed hump? Did they forget how to write the letter ‘B’? Texas is weird.
Haha, I’m glad! I have no idea why they do that here. I grew up in the north where they properly called them bumps!
haha! Best video ever. I also agree with @Courtney’s comment about the hump/bump. Texans are oddballs. 😉
Ha, why thank you! Hey, I’m a born northerner, so I’m with you. They are weird around these parts.
Holy shit, that video cracked me up.
Haha, nice! I’m glad!
Yeah, it’s nice to have friends now that want to sweat it out, then go for a drink (but not get hosed). Hilarious video!
Agreed! I’m happy I have so many exercise minded friends now-a-days. And a little celebrating isn’t bad either! Thanks!
