Toddler Time, Forced Yoga, & USA World Cup

(subtitle: Part III of why I’ve been MIA)

After another week of running, lifting, yoga-ing…plus an added 2.5 Jimmy Buffett concerts, I was spent.  Exhausted.  And when I awoke – I heard rain.  Hard rain.  It would’ve been perfect to stay in bed or on the couch all day, but that’s something that just doesn’t happen to people with toddlers…Or to folks who must exercise.

The lil monsters in a rare calm mood.

I woke up later than normal (thank you, kids for sleeping in).  I looked at the clock and realized yoga practice was less than an hour away.  I had a decision to make.  On one side there was the tiredness and rain, on the other side…this – I took a step and felt the slightest twinge in the outside of my left knee.  It reminded me of the years long struggles I had against IT Band Syndrome.  I knew I never want to go through that again, and I know yoga is one reason I was able to fight it off.              I went to practice.

Two feets, one mat.

Please instructor, can we do child’s pose the entire time.

The class was tough – not what I was hoping for the day after a Buffett concert.  But looking back, I’m glad it was.  That’s why we go – to challenge ourselves.

Afterwards it was a mad dash to get a bunch of errands and chores done before the USA vs POR World Cup Match.  I met a bunch of (mostly running) friends at a local pub.

A part of our World Cup viewing group. Yes, the infamous Pepsi even made an appearance (yes, that's her real name).

If you watched the match, you know what an emotional roller coaster it was.  Disbelief, tears of joy, then gasps of disbelief.  That said, it was fun.  That’s why we watch sports.  And in the end, the good ole’ US of A is in a great spot to advance to the next round.  But it is sports, so we have to wait until their match against Germany!  #Ibelievethatwewillwin

So there’s that.  Plus the previous days of epic craziness (If you missed them, you can read Part I HERE, and Part II HERE), plus life, plus work, plus everything = Scott’s been out of pocket.

Anyways, hoping to get back in a routine and catch up with everything, but we’ll see what life brings!

How bout you?  Ever go to yoga (or any workout) when you (and the universe) said not to?  Where and with whom did you watch the US/Por match?  Do you believe?

  1. I had horrible IT Band pain, too and yoga solved it completely. I have no more pain!! Yaaay to that!! I’ve definitely had those moments were I questioned if I wanted to practice, but afterwards, I’m ALWAYS happy I did. Have a great rest of the week!! XOXO!!

    • Yessss! Yoga is so important, I wish everyone would do it! IT is the worst, and I never thought I’d beat it. Glad we both did! And oh yeah, it’s always great afterwards!!!! You have a great one too! XOXO

  2. there’s something kind of special about yoga on a rainy day… is it just me?

  3. I’ve had plenty of times where I did just not want to go to yoga class but it’s almost always the right decision to get my butt there. Good luck with the match tomorrow!

    • Yes – recently I ran with a group and some of us were going to yoga after. One lady said she wasn’t feeling up to it. Then someone asked her if she feels worse or better after working out. Ha, she ended up going.

  4. Gosh, just tonight I didn’t want to go to yoga (because the lawn needs mowing, the floors need cleaning), but I did and I’m glad I did. It wasn’t a hard class which is what I needed. The lawn can be mowed later.

    • Haha, nice! Yes, you can mow it later. Since we actually got some rain here the past week and a half, the grass/weeds are growing like mad. I desperately need to mow it! But yes, yoga comes first!

  5. I forgot all about the game and missed it, sadly. I got sucked into catching up on Game of Thrones. We’ve finally almost caught up to real time so I don’t have to worry about epic spoilers all over my Facebook feed!

    • Haha, yes, whenever I try to DVR a game, it’s pretty much impossible to avoid the score no matter how hard I try. Gotta stay off ALL the internet!

  6. I still haven’t watched any games, but I see so many friends comment about them online that I feel like I have. And I like walking around Italy seeing people’s faces painted.

  7. Before WC began, I would have been thrilled with 4 points after two games. After Sunday, I was totally crushed that we didn’t win. What an exciting game that was! I felt the full gamut of emotions from ecstasy to despair.

    • I know exactly what you mean! We were so close to automatically moving on. I keep trying to remind myself that we have a 77% chance of advancing still. If we were Por or Gha, then we’d be in a desperate situation. Hopefully you can watch on your trip!

  8. I do believe! Go USA!

  9. It seems no matter what workout I’m doing, there are times when I really, REALLY don’t want to go. But I go, and I’m always glad I did. 🙂

    • I know what you mean! I’m pretty much in the habit of going no matter what, but sometimes I just ain’t feelin it. But when I do push through, I’m always glad I did!

  10. You’ve definitely had an epic few days. Way to lug yourself out of bed and hit yoga, helps all of us. Now I can say “if pirate can do it, so can I” lol.

Yikes a year battling ITB, I’m going to have to go back and read about that because I had a 2 month battle myself.

    • It’s been crazy…and it continues today! More news on that to come! Ha, yes, pirates love yoga, arrrrrgh you serious?

OH, I battled IT for a few years before I beat it. But I screwed it up pretty bad in the beginning. I haven’t yet done a full post on it, but I will!

  11. That was a crazy game. My jaw just dropped there at the end 😦 I really need to start doing some yoga. Seems like it’s good for so many reasons! Go USA!

  12. I’ve definitely worked out when the universe told me not to and it was a good decision every time. 🙂 Your kiddos are too cute!
I wasn’t in front of the TV the whole time for the last match up, but I did pay more attention to it than the previous one. And I’m going to be following today as well. I BELIEVE!!!!

    • Thank you! And yes, it is ALWAYS a good decision to work out!
Yay, hope you got a chance to watch! I hope to be able to get to a proper viewing area for the next round! USA!

  13. Yes, yoga is so good for IT band issues. I have been there before myself. I get lazy with the yoga, but it makes such a difference.

    • Agreed! I never want to go through that pain again, so I will stick with everything I have learned to prevent it! Yoga is key!

  14. Oh God, you reminded me of my gymnastics classes when I didn’;t want to 🙂 hahah! Your kids are absolutely adorable! xoxo

  15. You’re always dAshing here, dashing there.
