Sometimes I get bored on my commutes. If you follow my Instagram, then you probably know this. Cause I sometimes do silly things when sitting at a red light.
Besides playing with my camera phone, I also think about things. Recently I thought about this…
Several years ago I was lining up at the start of a 5k race. A dude in front of me was wearing a shirt with stuff written on the back. It was a list of things that only a runner would understand. One of the things listed was ‘a separate hamper for running clothes’. Ha, I don’t know why that stuck in my head all these years, but I can certainly relate!
I definitely have a separate hamper, and it don’t always smell so fresh. And now that we’re moving in to summer, the clothes that go into it are sweatier and it’s smelling less fresh.
And if I were to make that list of things a runner understands, I would add something else – ‘Always has a change of clothes on hand.’
I always keep a towel and a change of clothes in my vehicle. It works out perfectly after a sweaty run – change shirt/shorts and then put the towel on the car seat to keep it dry. This comes in especially handy if you’re running pals want to go grab a bite or a drink after.
It also comes in handy if you get caught in a rain storm, or if you have an unplanned meet-up after work, etc. etc. It’s just a good idea to be prepared, so do it already!
One disclaimer – Always remember to take your discarded sweaty clothes OUT of your vehicle when you get home. Do not leave it in there overnight – or you will smell it in the morning. And the fumes may make you get even sillier on your commute.
What about you? Do you keep a change of clothes on the ready at all times? Do you have a separate hamper? Anything else you’d add to the list of things runners understand? Any make-up tips?

Yes, you are just the purdiest thang ever.
I know, right?!?!
Hehe, man, I need your makeup tips!! I’m loving this new look!! Fabulous!!! Neon is totally in this summer, too!! Yes, I always have a change of clothes and always have a towel to put in my seat!! Sweaty!!!
Ha, yeah, sure you do. 😉 I just wanted to feel pretty for a day. Hahaha, thanks for the compliments!
You keep a change of clothes and a towel in your car too??? Twinsies!
Hehe, TOTALLY TWINS!!!! 🙂 🙂 XOXO!! Have a great weekend and I think you are pretty EVERY day!!!
Aww, you just made my day! You’re very pretty too! Have a great one!
XOXO!!! Thank you so much!!! 🙂
Haha!! Good look! I have a separate hamper for running gear. It comes in handy during the summer!
Ha, why thank you! You’re right – it’s super handy, especially this time of year!
This is too funny! I somehow feel more normal now. No, no, don’t get me wrong! I simply thought it was only me who was making weird/funny faces and taking selfies when bored 😀 hehe! My hubby totally made me feel this way 😀
xoxo

Hi Olena! Hahaha, thank you very much! Glad to hear I’m not alone in the silliness! I just figure that instead of being bored, try to do something fun! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Sadly, you are better at doing make-up than I am! So hot! Haha 😉 I also have running clothes and a towel in my car for spontaneous running opportunities! I’m sure the towel comes in especially handy for you down South! I can’t even imagine how “swassy” you’ve been getting on your runs lately! 😉
I noticed that from looking at your Instagram account….I could give you some tips if you want. 😉 Haha! Yes, the change of clothes has saved me many a time. And oh yes, it’s disgusting how swassy it’s been. The other day I only ran 3 miles and my friends said it looked like I had run a marathon. Dripping.
Lol – you’re too funny! Make up lessons would be fab! If I’m ever in Texas I’ll take you up on it! 😉
Haha, deal! I’ll get my paint brush ready!
🙂
You look lovely with all that… make up? What a goofball! I usually have AT LEAST one extra outfit with me if not more depending on how many classes I am teaching in a day. My least favorite thing is stinky sweaty socks so I go through a lot of them. I change my socks after every work out almost immediately. I don’t have a separate hamper as of now but am contemplating it for sure.
Haha, thanks Jenna!!! Oh yes, I bet you have to always have a bunch of outfits on hand for your work. Your car must be like a closet! Yes! I’m with you on the socks – I do always have a few pairs in my gym bag too! The extra hamper has been a huge help! It also helps keep my workout clothes organized and separate from regular clothes.
My secret to getting work out clothes extra clean is to add a cup of vinegar to the wash. Keeps em fresh.
Hmmm, interesting. Are you for real, or trying to play a prank on me?
For real for real!
Hm, OK, I may have to try this!
Amazing makeup skills! Unfortunately, I have no room for an extra hamper, but I do carry a change of clothes and 2 towels in my car at all times 🙂
I know, right?!? Can you believe I’ve had no make up training??? 😉 Yes – the extra clothes and towels has saved me more than once. But if I ever forget to put some in there, then I’m out of luck – not fun!
Makeup tips? Haha. There is no hope for you.
What? Oh no! I thought I had a lot of potential!
I was reading this out loud and said this sounds just like Rock. And Rock said, “It does sound like me if you also keep a chair, and golf clubs, and a baseball bat…..” We always have towels (usually stolen from the gym shhh….) and for awhile there were face wipes too. For some reason there are always Sport Beans in there too. I guess you never know when you will want to run a 20 miler?
Haha, Sounds like he’s ready for whatever sport comes up! Ha, don’t worry, I have several stolen towels too, your secret is safe! Oh yes, wet wipes are good to have on hand too! We have plenty around due to the toddlers, and they come in handy when I need to clean a sweaty face or pits! Ha, yeah, when I was training for Dopey, my car was filled with sports drinks, gu, etc etc etc! Filled!
You know that movie It? I might be more scared by your make-up shot. HAHAHA
Umm, good call on the taking the clothes out of the car. Yuuuuuck!
Haha, whaaa? I thought I looked pretty! 😉
Yeah, I’ve forgotten about a shirt or couple socks before…not good! hahaha
Sure do! My gym bag has extra of everything in it at all times. I already know I push my luck when I work out on my breaks and then come back to the office. I have to at least make some kind of effort for everyone who has to come near me. 🙂
Haha, I’m with you. My lunch workouts don’t include showering, so a change of socks will have to do!
I only bring extra clothes when I know I’m running (or swimming). Definitely have a separate hamper for running clothes. That’s great make-up by the way, much better than I can do!
Ha, well, I’ve been caught a few times without an emergency change, and it’s not pleasant, so now I’m prepared! Oh, you sell yourself short, I’m sure you could do make up at least that professional! 😉
Looking good! I am way to anal about my running plans to need back-up clothes. We do always keep some camping chairs for any unexpected tailgating or campfire loungin’ that may arise.
Thanks! 😉 I do like your tailgaiting plans! I forgot to mention that on special runs I always have a cooler in the trunk ready to go!
Haha the makeup looks great, very bright and fresh for spring! Is it bad that I don’t have a separate hamper?? Granted, I’m not running in the Texas heat…
Haha, thanks! I was going for a spring look….or a creepy doll look.
Hmmm, Well considering how much sweat my workout clothes soak up, I needed one or else they’d probably get all moldy buried in the regular hamper.
Dear god, you’re a handful. Your wife must be a saint.
A separate hamper is a good idea. The only thing worse than my stinky running clothes is my husband’s stinky yoga clothes.
I’ve seen that “Free Smells” signs at Jimmy Johns sub shop. Cracked me up.
Haha, yeah, she puts up with a lot.
It helps out having a seperate hamper too if you use a special detergent to wash your workout clothes.
Ha, I didn’t realize it was a JJ until later – I just finished my run and saw the neon and snapped a pic!
This is hilarious! I love the pictures xD
*Er, the advice itself is good and not hilarious, but you know what I mean (I hope!).
Ha, don’t worry, I understood ya! 😉
Haha, thanks so much!!!
Scotty- makeup tip = less is more. LOL I definitely have a separate hamper for workout clothes. I also always hang the clothes up to dry before throwing them in there. They smell bad enough, I don’t want mildew growin’ cause of all the moisture!
Pwahaha, thanks for the advice! Oh yes, I forgot to mention that I let them dry out before throwing them in the hamper…good point! Yes, moldy run clothes would be bad!
