Abby’s Race for Dandy Walker

In the morning I’m running the race that’s in the title.  My friend is the race director.  Meet Ann:

Proof that we're friends. That's me and her in a race from the other year.

She’s race director because her friend’s daughter has Dandy Walker Syndrome.  This race raises funds to help out these sweet little kiddos with Dandy Walker.

The little girl’s name is Abby.  Hence the name of the race.

Dandy Walker Syndrome is most unfortunate.  I’ve been briefed on it, and basically Abby was born missing 30% of her brain.

Last year I did alright in this race. You can read my recap HERE

It wasn’t my fastest time, but I still finished like 3rd overall and 1st in my age group.  Just goes to prove that you never know who your competition will be at any given race.  😉  I was glad that I could come through for a good cause.  It’s still one of my fave medals.

So again in the morning I will run this race.  I hope to have a good performance.  Why?  Well of course, I always want to PR.  I also want to support my friends.  Buuuuut I also really enjoy and get extra motivation when I know the race is supporting a good cause.  We’ll see how it goes.

How bout you?  Does the charity help you choose a race?  How cool is that medal?

Good for you. What a great cause. It’s so nice to be able to support a friend. I read the title and thought…hmm that sounds familiar. I used to study (kind of intermittently) genes involved in a more severe brain disease (yes, unfortunately there are some), but were also involved in Dandy Walker, and kidney disease, just in case you were interested, lol.

    • Thank you! The event has doubled in size each year they’ve had it. Hopefully it will continue to!
Interesting that you’ve heard of it. I actually recently was at a happy hour with bunch of doctors (oxymoron?) and none of them had heard of it. But they were all quick to look it up on their smartphones! Ha!

  12. That’s awesome! I love working for a cause. Love the medal and would love to have one!

  13. I solo hope it went well! That previous medal is spectacular. I would cherish it forever!

  14. “so”, not solo. Must be the wine and my testosterone-addled thumbs.

  15. I hope you had a great race on Saturday! That is by far the coolest medal I have ever seen in my life. I had never heard of Dandy Walker before now and that is so sad. 😦 What a great cause. Sometimes I run races just because, but other times I get drawn in by a cause, especially if it is something that has affected a loved one in some way.

    • Yeah, I had never heard of it until my friend started this race for it a couple years ago. I’m glad to be able to help in a small way. That’s so cool that you sometimes pick races for the cause! I love how running can help a charity!
