In the morning I’m running the race that’s in the title. My friend is the race director. Meet Ann:
She’s race director because her friend’s daughter has Dandy Walker Syndrome. This race raises funds to help out these sweet little kiddos with Dandy Walker.
The little girl’s name is Abby. Hence the name of the race.
Dandy Walker Syndrome is most unfortunate. I’ve been briefed on it, and basically Abby was born missing 30% of her brain.
Last year I did alright in this race. You can read my recap HERE
It wasn’t my fastest time, but I still finished like 3rd overall and 1st in my age group. Just goes to prove that you never know who your competition will be at any given race. 😉 I was glad that I could come through for a good cause. It’s still one of my fave medals.
So again in the morning I will run this race. I hope to have a good performance. Why? Well of course, I always want to PR. I also want to support my friends. Buuuuut I also really enjoy and get extra motivation when I know the race is supporting a good cause. We’ll see how it goes.
How bout you? Does the charity help you choose a race? How cool is that medal?

Great race! Great cause!! Good luck!! I’m sure you’ll do awesome!! Can’t wait to hear about it!! 🙂 Neat medal, too!!! I love it!
Thanks so much Kristin. I hope to make you proud!
🙂 🙂 You’ll do great!
As a Speech Therapist I work with a child with Dandy Walker. So cool to have a race for her. 🙂
You do? Very cool! I will remember that during my race!
Good luck tomorrow! I don’t know if you could get a better medal then that. I hope it’s a great day for everyone!
Thank you!!!! It’s not the biggest or blingyest, but it’s still probably my favorite! I’ll do my best!
Aww, that’s a really awesome medal. Good luck!
Thank you! I agree! I hope I can earn another!
This is so awesome. I have always liked how you are into running races with charities or running a race for a good cause. And this is a great one. That medal is an absolute keeper!
Thank you! I do really like knowing when races are volunteer driven and going to a good cause! I do love the medals. Spoiler alert – I got a new one this morning!!!
That is the best medal ever! What a great cause to run for. Have an awesome run and maybe you’ll be first overall this year?
I love the medal too! It’s a one of a kind for sure!
Thank you! I didn’t win the whole thing, but I did win my division. Details to come!
That is an awesome medal. What a great idea.
Honestly, it give me extra motivation knowing that those kids painted them!
That is a great cause, and a wonderful medal. I hope you have a great race!
Thanks so much! It’s definitely a favorite. I was lucky to get a new one this morning. Deets to come!
I love the medal, and wish you the best tomorrow!
Thank you so much. I really do treasure it!
What a wonderful race!! Dandy Walker sounds just awful but I’m glad y’all are able to give back! LOVE that medal! Good luck tomorrow!
Thank you!!! I spoke with Abby’s mom at the race this morning and she said they raised over $21,000. Very exciting!
OMG that’s amazing!!!
Crazy right!?!
Good for you. What a great cause. It’s so nice to be able to support a friend. I read the title and thought…hmm that sounds familiar. I used to study (kind of intermittently) genes involved in a more severe brain disease (yes, unfortunately there are some), but were also involved in Dandy Walker, and kidney disease, just in case you were interested, lol.
Thank you! The event has doubled in size each year they’ve had it. Hopefully it will continue to!
Interesting that you’ve heard of it. I actually recently was at a happy hour with bunch of doctors (oxymoron?) and none of them had heard of it. But they were all quick to look it up on their smartphones! Ha!
That’s awesome! I love working for a cause. Love the medal and would love to have one!
Yes, it’s definitely a one of a kind and one to cherish!
I solo hope it went well! That previous medal is spectacular. I would cherish it forever!
“so”, not solo. Must be the wine and my testosterone-addled thumbs.
Haha, yes, it’s a very cool medal! And I’m sorry about your thumbs! haha
I hope you had a great race on Saturday! That is by far the coolest medal I have ever seen in my life. I had never heard of Dandy Walker before now and that is so sad. 😦 What a great cause. Sometimes I run races just because, but other times I get drawn in by a cause, especially if it is something that has affected a loved one in some way.
Yeah, I had never heard of it until my friend started this race for it a couple years ago. I’m glad to be able to help in a small way. That’s so cool that you sometimes pick races for the cause! I love how running can help a charity!
