How to Get Free Schtuff

If you follow my blog, or my instagram, or my tweeter, then you know that I’ve been getting some sweet birthday meals this week.

Bought by a friend.

Taco Taco (Bought by a friend)

And here’s the best part – they’ve been FREE!  Here’s how you do it:

1.) Have a friend or family member take you out for your birthday.  Repeat with others (don’t take advantage though – and never ask them to buy you food, duh, rude much)  Easy enough.

2.) Go to your fave places’ websites and register for their e-newsletter or whatever.  Come birthday month, they e-mail you all kinds of coupons and vouchers.  Print them and claim rewards!

You can also tweet the company and see what they say.  I was in the middle of a titter-conversation with Torchy’s Tacos and when it came out that it was my birthday, they sent me this:

I don't know what they're sending me, but I know I didn't buy it.

I don’t know what they’re sending me, but I know I didn’t buy it.

I can’t wait to see what I get in the mail this week!  (more on that later)

Anyways, so far I’ve gotten some tacos and some wings.  Upcoming is some ‘za and more tacos and BBQ.  It’s on.

This goes for non-food too, but I didn’t write about that because hey, I’m hungry.

Anyone else use this ploy?  Any good free meals lately?  Any other ideas to get some?

  1. Great ideas!!! I love them!!! Very knowledgeable, you are! I could learn a thing or two from you!! I’m glad you’ve been eating some great meals lately!!!

  2. haha — I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again. YOU WOULD.

  3. I used to sign up on the birthday list to some good restaurants that I liked. I haven’t done that since we’ve been up here though. It’s always nice getting free stuff on your birthday!!

  4. Is “‘za” a thing? I swear, I’m getting old when I don’t get all the young whipper snapper slang.

    • Haha, totes (totally)! All us cool upper 30’s kids are down (familiar) with all the dope (neat) slang. I can’t wait to get my free ‘za (pizza)!

  5. I’ve learned so much in this post and through the comments – such as new slang and how to get free food. Nifty! Wait a minute, is that an “old person” word or is it so old it’s now cool?

  6. Lol very economical post. Great advice but now I am starving and have another urge for tacos and beer. It’s only 8am here. What to do?!

  7. TartanJogger

    Fantastic!

  8. I’ve never used this ploy but you better believe I’m going to now. I just wish my birthday wasn’t so recently so I didn’t have to wait a year.

You have gotten me obsessed with Torchy’s Tacos and I’ve never even seen the place. WHY DON’T WE HAVE THEM HERE!?

    • Yes, load up on the registrations now and enjoy the rewards next year!

Haha, the original Torchy’s is in Austin (along with all the other cool stuff), but has recently started expanding up to Dallas. You might have to wait a while for nation wide expansion. Or you could just book a race here!!!

  9. Lol I’ve never thought about #2. Brilliant way to get free food!! Your other free schtuff should be getting there by Saturday!! Apparently some guy decided horseback was the proper method to transport said schtuff.

    • Haha, I didn’t plan it at first, but now I always look to sign up at my fave places. Sometimes they send you something lame, but other places send you complete free meals. Score! Ha, I’ve been checking my mailbox. I usually dread checking it, but now I’m excited for the pony express to get here!

  10. The most I’ve done is sign up for mailing lists which doesn’t get me much! It’s sadly just 3 weeks too late to benefit this year but I’ll keep all of this in mind for next year!

    • Honestly, when I first signed up, it was because I liked the joint. But when they sent me a free meal, I went to all the places I like and signed up. It’s hit or miss, but the scores are so worth it!

  11. Perfect timing! My birthday is coming and I am so going to do this! Thanks for the great idea!

  12. That’s the best! I’ve signed up for a bunch of my fave places if they have birthday clubs or stuff like that. Ruby Tuesdays was the best one for me personally until last year. You used to get a free burger on your birthday, but last year I got zip from them. Enjoy the freebies!

    • Sorry about your burger. We have a Grimaldi’s pizza here, and they didn’t send me my free pizza coupon until the day of my birthday. I thought maybe they had stopped doing it! Whew!
