Hey Look, I’m in a Magazine

First off, don’t get too excited, it’s not Playdude or whatever.

You see, when I’m not running/exercising, I’m making videos.  I’m a producer/editor/writer/videographer/director/host/etc.  In fact, part of the reason I write this blog is to help keep that creative/writing part of my brain strong – just like we have to exercise our bodies to keep them fit.

I’ve been lucky that at the place I work, we’ve won a ton of awards over the years.  We’ve even won several Emmy’s from the Texas Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.  It’s a team effort, but considering they had 1 nomination and 1 win before I got here, and since then we’ve had 19 nominations and 8 wins, I’d say I brought some luck 😉

Two of em.

Two of my ladies.

Seriously though, I do enjoy entertaining and educating people, so I enjoy what I do.  I have had offers for jobs offering a lot more money, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to be as creative in those positions, so I turned them down.  Anyway, a local magazine put our picture in this month’s issue because we recently won two more Emmy’s a few months ago.

I was hoping for the centerfold.

I was hoping for the centerfold.

You can enlarge the image by clicking on it.  If you do and then decide to print it out, you can send it to me and I will autograph it and mail it back.  Of course, I’m just kidding about that previous sentence.  Please don’t do that.  Haha!

What about you?  What do you do to be creative?  Do you incorporate your line of work into exercise somehow?  Have you ever been in Playdude Magazine?

  1. wow! that’s awsome, congrats!!
I’m an English teacher so I like being creative with my lesson planning and keep things interesting for my students. I think about these things when I run : )

I haven’t been a Playdude magazine but when we got married we got the front cover and a spread in a social magazine of the city in Mexico we got married in 🙂

  2. Congratulations! You look so excited and happy in the pictures 🙂 You’re so lucky for liking what you do, not everybody can say that!

  3. That is great! So cool!

What did you win the emmy’s for?

My blog is my creativity I think. I get inspired by my workouts and hope that my blogs motivate and inspire others to get out and move.

As for my work and exercise…I gather friends after work for workouts. I do admin type work so the only exercise I get is a walk or a class at the gym while I am at work or getting up and down to get food from the fridge while at work. ha!

Oh and never been in a Playdude mag. Not really sure what that is but I go to a dirty place.

    • This past year we won for a couple short documentaries. I was pretty happy they won as I poured a lot of energy into one of them.

Yes, I know that your creative ideas help people in their fitness endeavors!

Good for you! Several times a day I’ll go for a walk around the building to stretch my legs and get a little exercise by going up and down the stairs.

Ha, yes, I was trying to go to a dirty place without graphically so!

      • Sounds like your hard work paid off then. Good stuff.

Fresh air and exercise are good. So many people don’t go out at lunch or take breaks at work. It’s too bad.

        🙂 re dirty place

      • I know right! Even the vitamin D from the sun is so important! That’s why I always try to take the rug rats for a walk when they are getting a cold.

      • Good Dad 🙂

  4. Man you really ARE a celebrity. I’m gonna be on the look out for your face on People.com…

  5. Wow you are a celebrity! Your job is awesome. My brother is an aspiring videographer. I should point him at your blog. 🙂 Congrats on the magazine mention!

I am in a creative field, so that’s my job every day! I have been a graphic designer for 12 years and have had my hand in a lot of different aspects of it. My favorite being a stint with an entertainment magazine in LA. It was so much fun working there! (LOTS of award season stuff! Hell you might have seen some of my work.) Right now I do real estate and property management design which is less glam, but still interesting and I can be really creative marketing wise.

I would LOVE to work for a fitness related business though. And no I have unfortunately never been in Playdude magazine.

    • Haha, thank you! Best of luck to your bro!!!

I had figured from some of your posts that you were involved in graphics! I bet I have seen your work! It must be crazy to be in that industry in LA. Whenever I’ve visited friends there, it’s always such a surreal world. Even though you aren’t there now, at least you still get to be creative!

      As for playdud…maybe someday! 😉

  6. TartanJogger

Fantastic! I run to get away from work thoughts 😉 lol!

  7. Nice job! My husband is in the same line of work. He’s done video production for the 82nd Airborne in the Army. And now he is a commercial (and previously promotions) writer/producer. Noo Emmy’s for him though.

I was sort of in a magazine once. I contributed to a co-workers blog called Tasty Lies. It reviewed frozen meals mostly. We’d discuss how the meal actually was compared to what it looked like on the box/ in the picture and with the cooking instructions and whatnot. We were mentioned in Geek Magazine about a year and a half ago. But no Playdude.

    • Oh, very cool! Wish him best of luck! Emmy’s are hard to come by, I’ve had some videos I thought were a lock, that don’t even get nominated. You never know with judges.

Very cool about the mag. What a great idea – you could extend it beyond frozen meals and go to fast food joints or restaurants and compare the actual hamburger to the one in the advertisement! I think that’d be pretty funny to see!

  8. Congrats! That’s awesome! I do online marketing so my blog is my break where I get to talk about me and not something else for a few minutes. It’s my little reprieve online.

  9. Awesome! Congrats!

  10. Superstar!

  11. Way to go PB…and thanks for the reminder that swimsuit season is just around the corner! That no-drain tummy tuck might be just what I need this year! 🙂

  12. I agree that blogging is great exercise for the mind! I think it’s amazing that you’ve turned your creativity in to a career. Sounds like a dream job 🙂 I’m a fairly creative person, I’ve been involved in performance arts almost my whole life, up until very recently. My blog has been a good start-up for getting my creativity flowing again 🙂

    • I can really tell a difference when I don’t warm up my brain by blogging – if I don’t it usually is harder for me to write scripts. Performance arts, eh? I’m curious as to what you did! Glad you’re getting the creative juices flowing again!

      • It is a good warm up! I bet it helps a lot, the more writing you do, the more ideas that can come out 🙂 Oh I’ve been playing music since I was 8! Violin and later percussion, I practically lived in a practice room as a kid so I burned out in college, but I still like to play! I used to dance and have taken plenty of theatre classes, very casually but fun hobbies to have 🙂

      • Oh, very cool! Great hobbies! I know what you mean about getting burned out on something, but then re discovering it later!

  13. I spent some time as an actor, doing local TV, improv and theatre. *sigh* Then I got a job to get a house and a mortgage. Then I designed and sold some running shrugs, and entered the world of blogging. I still work to pay my mortgage. Oh and I run, to think up just what I should do next. 🙂

    • Oh really?!?! Cool! I love improv! I know what you mean about the whole bills and mortgage thing. Especially since the kids came. I can kind of still remember what disposable income was like. I also spend a good portion of my run thinking about new ideas!

  14. Doesn’t playdude only exist on the simpsons?

I’m not very creative; obviously. But what I do pays the bills, I guess!

  15. Congrats!!! Those could double as weights! I wrote once upon a time but that was a long time ago. 🙂

    • Haha, I can just imagine going to the gym and pulling them out of the bag and doing “Emmy Curls”. Seems like you still write to me!

  16. Congrats!

  17. Congrats on the ladies 😉
I’m not really creative…I got the sporty gene. My blog is my creative writing side…which isn’t awesome but it’s fun to do. It’s been eye opening “meeting” people/bloggers and learning from them for running and blogging.

  18. That is so awesome, congrats!! I am sadly, not the most creative person on the planet. My job is pretty analytic and also social, but not super creative, which I am happy for (otherwise I’d be unemployed.) The most creative thing I do is blog and that is more so my friends and husband don’t want to hit me because I talk non stop about things like running, proper fueling, you know…annoying runner things 🙂

    • Thanks so much! And hahaha! I know what you mean about not wanting to annoy all our non runner friends and family.
I actually started when certain people would ask me about my training, and instead of repeating the same answers over and over, I could just point them to the blog!

  19. Too cool for school!! Oops, already sent my printout to you 😉 I was almost in a Playdude mag until I realized it wasn’t a magazine selling play structures and kids’ toys. I kid.
