Yoga, Lululemon, & Man Panties

This past weekend my knee was feeling better and I wanted to get a sweat on.  Luckily one of my running groups contacted me and invited me to go on a trail run, followed by yoga.  Not ready to test the knee on a run, I skipped it and met them for yoga.  Hence began my super masculine-opposite experience.

This particular practice took place at the local Lululemon shop.  If you’re not familiar, this store is a yoga-athletic one that primarily caters to the female of the species.  So I know ladies, you’d think that  yoga + Lululemon = would cause enough squealing, but it gets better.

A man's child pose.

A man’s child pose.

First off, it was free!  Second off, the instructor was really good.  I very much enjoyed the practice – challenging, different, sweaty, soreness causing, and thought provoking.  I even got two compliments about my deep breaths – something I really try to focus on!

But get this, when we were in our eyes-closed corpse pose at the end of practice, somebody went around and put a little heart shaped dark chocolate piece on each of our yoga mats.

Then get this, they had gone and got Starbucks and blueberry scones for everybody.  I’ve never had a cup of coffee in my life, but ever since I visited Scotland for the first time, I’ve had a definite taste for scones!

I may or may not be following along too closely.

Cat, Cow, whichever.

And finally, they told us that everyone in the class could either choose one free panty or boxer-brief (man panty).  This prompted many cheers from the ladies.  I was excited too (spoiler alert, I chose the boxer-brief).  There were only a handful of us dudes in there, but we weren’t about to say “No” to a free pair of athletic undies.  Them bad boys are $40 a pop!

So there it was:  Free Yoga + Lululemon + Chocolate + Starbucks + Scones + Free Undies = Not something dudes typically do on a Sunday, but I don’t care.  Life’s what you make of it, right?

Afterwards, I chatted with my friends who were there, and sent out a playful tweet – joking that they had to collect my man card at the door.  Well, the Lululemon half marathon – SeaWheeze – picked up on my tweet and replied with this…

This counts as a legal document, right?

This counts as a legal document, right?

All in all it was a pretty successful morning.  And my man card is still in my possession!

How bout you?  Ever get free underwear?  How do you like your yoga practice?  What could’ve made this experience even more masculine opposite?

  1. I love this post! Hilarious!

  2. TartanJogger

Aaargh! Is this place called heaven-on-earth by chance? Only thing missing is a new handbag!

  3. I totally dig the “man card”. Free underwear is cool too. Can’t say I’ve ever been given free underwear. I’ve come across underwear over the years while out running. Those would be free, but totally gross. If they had given out free pedicures that would’ve been even more of a non-traditional dude’s Sunday. Who doesn’t like a pedicure though?

    • Haha, I’ve also seen pairs of undies on the road as I run. What’s up with that? I also saw a ladie’s thong on the floor of the men’s locker room at the gym. I didn’t take them either.
You know what’s funny, my female friends in that yoga class did go get manicures afterwards! You would’ve fit in!

  4. 1) How can you live your life without coffee?
    2) Free Yoga + Lululemon + Chocolate + Starbucks + Scones + Free Undies = NIRVANA!!!!!

  5. Haha, too funny!!!

  6. This had me laughing out loud! Glad to hear you enjoyed your day, sounds like a great deal!

  7. Lol thanks for the chuckle. I needed it 🙂

  8. man panties — too funny! lol

  9. My husband loves Lululemon’s men’s shorts for yoga & we both have their yoga mats (by far the best). I love the man card. You got quite a deal out of the whole experience.

We don’t have a Lululemon near us. I have a pair of their lady panties I got for Christmas but I haven’t tried them yet.

    • Hmmm, to be honest, I had never set foot in that shop before. And I didn’t browse at all that day either. I’ll have to go back and check out the selection for men!

  10. Will you be hiking the Appalachian trail first or growing the epic beard?

  11. Well first off…I do not like the P word you have used in this post. Just makes me cringe. I find the word sounds so dirty. haha

That is quite the class and score you walked away with. Is that typical for them to do? Was there a special reason they did it?

I have never done yoga at Lulu but I do love their store.

As for my yoga practice I am enjoying it so far and learning a lot. I struggle with the breathing though.

    • Haha, sorry! But that is the announcement they made, not my word!
I guess they did it special for Valentines Day weekend. It was my first time there and one of the regulars said I must be good luck!
It was a little weird being in a lit room, and the floor was a bit dusty, but other than that, it was a good class!
Yes, the breathing is key! I really focus on it and try to carry it over to my running.

      • Well, I have to remember to go at Christmas and see what they do 🙂
Happy you enjoyed the class. The Lulu store is about a 15-20 min drive from where we live or I would go more often. Probably a good thing though that it isn’t close. 🙂

      • 15-20 is far?!?! Holy cow, everything in Dallas is at least that far away it seems!

      • Well, no it isn’t far but when we got to bed as early as W and I do driving downtown for yoga that goes until 8 or 8:30, then getting back home around 9.

Well most nights we are already settled in to bed by then. LOL

      • Oh, I understand! I’m asleep so early now a days it’s embarrassing!

      • 🙂

  12. “man-panties” made me laugh right away! Lol! Sounds like it was a great day! I’m glad you’re knee is starting to feel better.

  13. Oh my god, that sounds like an AWESOME Sunday!! Nothing beats yoga, chocolate, and free Lululemon! I love the card; did they come up with that on the spot?

    • It was a pretty special experience, even for a dude!
I think they already had the card as they tweeted it almost instantly to me. Funny stuff!

  14. Awesome and hilarious!

  15. That man card is AWESOME!!! I need to look into this free class thing. I wonder if my local Lulu does them. And no I have never been given free underwear, but that sounds pretty great. 🙂

    • I thought it was funny too! At this location, I think they do it each week. They’ve also been hosting one of my running groups social runs. Look into it!
It was kind of weird looking through all the undies with a few other dudes, but I’m not complaining!

  16. Melanie

Never had a cup of coffee?! I am not sure I can continue to read your blog! I only had 4 cups (large travel mug) today.

  17. I love Lulu Lemon! Great blog post!

  18. Haha love this, sounds like a pretty perfect Sunday to me! I think it’s awesome you’ve never had coffee, I like a cup every now and then but it has way too much caffeine, I’m a huge tea drinker!

  19. Er..sounds like the sweets and scones could’ve undone all that yoga LOL. And are you KIDDING me?? Yoga is amazing, and can be even more so progressively depending on the know-how of the instructor. The handful of men in my class in years past swam in their sweat by the end of the first 10 minutes. They visibly shook, trying to hold their post. Such a great workout, I’m so glad we have this in common, though I’m not anything near the yogi I wish I were. Hope you’ve gone back….What a great complement to the running.

    • Haha, I thought the same thing! OH YES, I love yoga. I’ve been going about once a week for the last 7-8 years I think. I agree that a lot depends on the instructor. I was going to a really good one, but I let that gym membership lapse. So yes, I’ve been going back to Lulu each Sunday for this class. They rotate instructors and they have been all awesome so far! Some really great classes.
I really believe it helps running – the breathing, strengthening, flexibility, and calming the mind have all been beneficial to my running. I didn’t realize you were so in to yoga too. Very cool! It makes sense though.
