It’s been a week and a half since my graceful tumble during my run. The swelling in my knee has gone way down, but I can still feel a little liquid left in there. I hope it goes away on it’s own soon. It seems like each day I get a little more range of motion back.
I don’t have any pain walking, it’s just a little stiff from the swol. It is still a bit tender to the touch to the point of contact, but that’s better too.
I’ve been taking Arnica, as that always seems to help. And our blogging friend the Holistic Wayfarer sent me a link to a post she had written with some natural remedies. You can see it here. She also has Traumeel listed as an option. I have never heard used, but will give it a try.
I also went to my chiropractor, who said I was the most out of alignment that she’s ever seen me. Hopefully her adjustments will hold for a while.
Oh, and I played amateur MD when I googled “swollen knee from fall”. The good news is that according to the symptoms, it shouldn’t be anything too serious!
I also watched some Olympics and what is up the the moguls?!?! Besides sounding like something from Harry Potter, it looks crazy! I’ve seen a few people getting hurt already, and I don’t understand how everyone is not hurt! That just looks like torture on the knees! They did say that one of the competitors just had to have a bunch of fluid drained from a knee. Hopefully I won’t have to go that far.
I shan’t be trying out moguls anytime soon, and I also shan’t attempt to run until it feels back to normal. Of course, if it doesn’t continue to improve, I’ll have to go see a specialist, but so far so good!
How bout you? Do you have any go to remedies when you get injured? Any desire to ski moguls?
Arnica is my go-to, too. And much as I like watching moguls, you wouldn’t get me anywhere near!
I know, right! It looks like torture on the knees and hips and lower back!
Did you see the girl who was snowboarding and her helmet cracked? That was crazy. She passed out and then boarded down the hill. That Warren and I couldn’t believe.
As for your knee. Happy to hear you are on the mend. I take IB profin when I am hurt. Epsom salt baths may help too. I am told that is good for the body by both my massage therapist and my osteopath. Maybe give that a try?
You are probably out of alignment from your Dopey Challenge as well as your fall. Hope you feel better soon.
I did not see that, and I’m glad I didn’t. Crazy! Hope she’s ok!
I did take some Advil initially, but haven’t lately. Hmmm, maybe when I look for the Traumeel, I’ll look for the Epsom salts too! Thanks for the tip!
Actually, I went in to get adjusted after the Dopey and she said I wasn’t too bad. I guess the trauma of the fall, the the limping I’ve been doing since wasn’t the best thing for my body, go figure! Haha!
I’m glad Google says it’s nothing serious! When I try to self-diagnose any type of symptom I either have a fracture, cancer or I’m pregnant. Obviously, there is nothing in between haha. I’m really loving watching the Olympics this year, especially the skiing and snowboarding events. I was think about how much torture it must be on their bodies too. But it’s so impressive!
Hahaha, that made me laugh. I hope you survive your fracture pregnancy!
All the sports seem so deadly! Hello, ski jump, luge, etc!
My prognosis is looking good 😉
Thanks doc!
I usually take Advil – I keep forgetting about things like arnica. I have used it before, it’s awesome for bruising – I think I shall go get some to I’m ready for my next bout of clumsiness. Hope your knee heals fast and you’re back at it soon.
I took some advil at first, but not lately. I wish I had had some in stock. That would be smart to get some for the future! Hopefully you won’t need it though!
Glad to hear your knee is feeling a little better. I go to my trusty Vitamin I (Ibuprohen), ice, heat then the Dr.’s if it’s still bad after a week.
I used to ski the moguls all the time as a kid/teenager and LOVED it. I probably would still give it a try but only if the conditions were awesome and there was little to no ice on them. The Olympics are crazy right now. I’m loving it!
Ha, yes, I did take some Advil the first few days, but stopped after the main swelling went down. You skied moguls?!?! I don’t know how they aren’t all broken all the time!
Glad you’re on the mend! I had the same thoughts watching moguls…ow! And running is high impact, but moguls just look so rough.
Thanks! Yeah, it just looks like a real beating to the knees and hips!
Glad your knee is feeling better. I’ve tried Traumeel, but I’m on the fence as to it’s effectiveness (it just might not work for foot tendons). I like voltaren emulgel and advil. And yah, moguls are intense. My knees are still aching from watching, but gotta say, Go Canada!!
Thank you! I try to always be open to all options in life, injury fixes included! Thanks for the info. And yes, go North America!
Glad to hear that your knee is feeling better! I hope your recovery speeds up and you can be back to entertaining us with all your running hilariousness (yep I made that word up).
I have bad knees but have no helpful remedies. Wasn’t that informative?
Haha, thank you! I do feel all out of sorts since I haven’t been able to run. It’s why I’ve been a bit absent. I hope to be all hilariousness again soon!
I take fish oil every day, in part because they say it helps you joints. Might want to give that a try.
I’ve heard that too. Have you come across fish oil pills that are smaller? All the ones I have seen are giant.
Yeah, they are pretty big pills. I’ll keep an eye out if I find any smaller ones!
Haha I was thinking the same thing about the moguls too! It just looks like a crazy knee-torture-device. Glad your knee is getting better!
Thank you! And yeah, I don’t know how any of them still have ACLs!
Oh my knees hurt just watching moguls! I was running on the treadmill watching and I had trouble staying on as I shouted as some of them flipped onto their backs. I think I will stick to running!
Ha, yes. Though I proved with my recent spill that running isn’t always that safe though! Be careful on the treadmill!
I’m glad to know your knee feels a little bit better! Stay at home and keep watching Olympics, your body needs some rest every once in a while! 🙂
Thank you! I keep trying to remind myself that this is just my body getting some needed rest. But it’s hard when you’re used to always being on the go!
